Call a bank - they still may change them.
Otherwise, yes, they are worthless. AFJuvat

There may be a collector value at some point in the future... leave 'em for your grandkids. Happened to me. I got a bunch of european coins from early 1800s, some 1842 and 1848 US dimes and nickels, and more european stuff from 1918 thru 1924. Not sure how grandpa got the 19th cent. euro stuff, but the pre-civil war stuff was supposedly gotten from some slot machine at some point, and the 20th cent. euro stuff was from both grandma and grandpa's travels.

I've got a bunch of Deutsche marks, all over my head and shoulders, from when I got in a fight with that burly German kid. They only hurt for a little while, though.

Um........I know nobody listens to low posting members, but I'd like to say that this defunct symbol of German economic stability and prosperity will rise again! Hang on to them and store them in a safe and secure place!

The German Central bank will change them into Euros. There was a transition period where all banks changed them into Euros, but now it is only the Central Bank of each country who can change them. So you need to go to the Bundesbank to get your Euros.
If I remember correctly, each 2 DM will buy you one Euro (more or less), which is about 1.3$. So each DM is about 0.65 bucks. Depending on the amount you found you could get someone from Germany to change them for you and send you dollars back (I would do it but the Spanish central bank only changes Pesetas into Euros, not DM, sorry). |
