I ordered a Garmin iQue M5 (Windows Pocket PC) version of the 3600 last night. Paid $573 for it. Also picked up a Sandisk 256MB card with built-in wi-fi. Now, I don't need to travel with my heavy laptop!
I bought a Lotus Elise and will be driving it home from New Jersey (to Florida) next week. I will report back with the M5s performance.

One more thing... The Garmin units come with the suction attachment for your windshield with a built in speaker and charger.

magellan color is great - uses sd cards, also usable for an off road hiking gps w topo maps. once you learn the software it's really easy. Does turn by turn, etc. runs off the lighter. although i'm a palm user, i prefer not to mash it all into one system. If travelling w a laptop though, one of the laptop units is the way to go, you get much more screen to look at & better res (make sure you have a way to run the laptop off of the cig lighter though).

Just as an aside, take a look at Doug Cox's Program USA Photomaps. It lets you download the USGS Topographical maps, and The aerial photos from Terraserver. It will show your tracks, and waypoints on the topos, or the photos. It's really a neat program.
