Low-rise clothing in Va. now illegal!!
Yes that's right folks. The house just passed a bill yesterday voting 60 / 34 in favor of fining anyone $50.00 with pants low enough to see a "substantial portion" of underwear showing.

The sad part is that on the same day they refused to pass a law preventing smoking in certain public places... and the reason they gave for killing that bill was that it was "nannyish" and was "government intrusion" into one's personal life. Apparently, irony isn't in the Richmond vernacular.

So how low is "low rise"? Did the bill provide any guidelines? Is there a ruler... and who will be using it? Will it be hygenic?
The back-border may be easily determined. The front can have a clear border as well but with some "gerrymandering" w/ Gillete's assistance the demarcation line can be easily lowered.... |

Actually, this law is stupid, but that doesn't stop things like this from happening here. 60 or 70 years from now, people will be laughing their butts off (covered or otherwise), completely amazed by the stupid laws of VA back at "the turn of the century."

Law enforcement organizations see bills sometimes that they immediately declare will not affect them. This is one of those.

Legislative sessions usually begin with grandstanding like this. Pet legislation. Eventually, there comes deadlines when a bill has to be out of committee, or out of its house of origin. Bills that don't make it by this time are dead. Things start to get more serious once this has happened. Then finally, every two years in Washington State, the budget has to be written. That's the part where the fun really stops and they are forced to quit playing fun games and instead roll up their sleeves and get to work. If they had done that in January, they'd be better off, but they cannot seem to resist playing around.
