Under your $1K MSRP - but the frame is very nice and standard components are good. I'll upgrade near term the cranks and bar/stem. After that the stock wheels get tossed for something better. The stock seat lasted one ride. Brakes are phenom as is the overall geometry. I can't stand softtail bikes but then I'm not a downhill bomber either. I like the long agonizing uphills best.

Too bad its a 'Large' frame - I think a large is the 20-21" range for Kona. Probably too big if your looking for a 19".

Full XTR ?????

Hope hubs, Raceface 175 crankset - nice but not full xtr.
He doesn't mention cassette, BB or 9-speed.

About as far from a hardtail as you can get, but I'd sell my K2/ProFlex. It is essentially brand new. Lot's of carbon parts. Asking $750.

Sorry...I guess I'm just a bit old-school. I still ride a '94 Cannondale M900 with no electronically controlled active suspension.

Pneumatically controlled manually adjustable suspension?

Got that...but then again so do you...

Neither of those bikes are Kona - any bike can be broken.Kona is the best of the bunch. Traditionaly hard tails are ridden cross country - full suspension is necessary for big drops. BTW I have owned my Hei Hei since 1990 and ride on the North Shore (http://www.nsmb.com/ - check out the photos) this bike has been nothing short of fantastic. I believe the large size is an eighteen inch - easily confirmed with an e-mail. Cheers!

I agree with the Kona frames. I have recently aquired one and love it! I'm 6'1" and ride a Large without any trouble.

Ebay is a great resource for good buys on bikes. I would also check out your local shops....they take bikes in on trade sometimes. There is a 19.5 Trek 8000 w/ XTR, Chris King headset here in CT for $900 I think. Pretty nice buy!!

I agree on the Kona bikes,

I used to manage a bicycle shop in a past life, the kona Ti frame was produced by Sandvic and used the standard 3.2 Ti, but there was a version available that used the 6.4 Ti version. Currently Kona does not make or use a Ti frame, but buying a Ti bike is a lifelong commitment, and I would suggest riding some different bikes for frame size, geometry and feel before purchasing.

No offense to above but, Airborne frames were pretty junky(advertised as an affordable mail order Ti frame/bike) , welds were of poor quality, (produced in some third world country by a child chained to a bench with nothing but a bowl of hot steam for lunch) so seeing that some one broke one comes as no surprise to me. as for Litespeed that seem odd but anything can be broken......

for The best Ti frames out there, Moots, Seven, Dean, Kona (just to name a few) are really well made and you can even order custom sizes.....

two crapass companies imho. Airborne is cheap Chinese labor and questionable qc...welding Ti isn't easy, and if conditions aren't right, you're hosed. Don't get me started about the Litespeed boys. I bought a frame from them that I couldn't even mount a rear wheel in...incorrectly machined dropout and bad rear triangle alignment.

Moots on the other hand...

Seven is OK too...
