Passport goes off when I floor the Odyssey van!
Hi there,
Just throwing this out there for some feeback. I have a Passport 8500 radar detector, which is great by the way. This is in no way intended to start a debate on what detector is better. However, whenever I use it in my wife's Honda Odyssey, it always alerts when I floor the car on the highway during passing. It never used to do that, and I have not changed ANY settings. It will alert for the whole time I'm accelerating, and about 5 seconds after too. WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THAT!!! Thanks,

Your radar detector is psychic. It recognizes wide open throttle and speed. It is warning you before the radar gun locks up on you.

Hey fellas,
I'm not kidding. Don't really think the radar is possessed!!!! When it alerts under heavy acceleration, I think it's a K or Ka band though. Regards,

considering that this is the only way your radar detector has of communicating with you, your radar is sending you a message. the message is uproarious laughter at the thought that you seem to be convinced that pushing on the loud pedal of an Odyssey will actually do anything! aside from laughing, if it could point, too, it would
![]() ![]() ![]() seriously though. doesn't your detector distinguish between K and Ka? could the warning be a reboot phase caused by a loose power connection? this happened to me with my old whistler

Mine did that too, but it was the laser warning. I disabled laser, because if you get a hit, you're already toast since the beam is 18" at 500 feet.
I believe you should disable X band as well. If I remember correctly, only Ohio uses it for speed enforcement, and it's a huge source of false alerts. Passport has the info. You can send your Passport for a complete software update for $68ish, but I'd wait until that update will include POP laser detection. You can buy a laser detector/shifter (jammer) from Escort that will mount down by your plates where the cops aim, and it'll give you an alert and jam automatically. Probably the only way to combat laser. (I recently got a laser ticket). http://www.passportsr1.com/

Ronin,
The Odyssey has a lot more pull than you'd think. It moves for a minivan, over 240 hp. Honda VTEC 6cyl. Yes, I'll defend my van, demmit............................. The radar must be haunted....and yes, it signals a laser as well. Regards and thanks,
