Do you have a doctor that you could call on a Saturday morning, and be seen that day?

Do you have a doctor that you could call on a Saturday morning, and be seen that day?

For example:

A doctor that you are supposed to be seeing on a regular basis, say, every other month. You don't see them for over 90 days, get into trouble, call them on Saturday morning around 10:00, what would they tell you?

If I called my doctor on Saturday morning, I'd get a pre-recorded message telling me her office hours. If I called on Monday morning, I'd be told it will be at least a month to get an appointment.

The office answering message would say to call 911 if an emergency, or leave a msg and doctor on call will respond (eventually.) "Eventually" comes around, and on-call Dr probably says to go to ER, or call next week for an appt - which will likely be in about 2-3 days if lucky.

yup, though the office once offered a "concierge" service for $2000 a year.

When I was young my mom called our Dr. a few times for dumb things I had done. (broken arm on a Saturday and a knife stuck in my thigh about 9pm)

It's kind of funny. I'm not that old, but I still remember having a family doctor do house calls when I was a small child. Remember house calls?

Uh oh.... what happened? (patient wise)

...the prudent answer would be that it would depend on the nature of the emergency, and most MD's I know would have another associate on call and punt to ER if it wasn't able to be handled over phone.

The only time I saw my family doc on the weekends was at Costco.
I would do an urgent care over the tmc on a weekend though.

My Physicians, Dr, Dentist, even my pets vet are partners in my health needs.

I respect their time, show up early, don't blow off appointments, follow their advice.

In return I expect the same, don't make me wait for a half hour after our appointed time, follow up / check in with me if we are managing a current issue.

If I don't feel I'm being serviced properly I'll find a new doc.

If my doc feels I'm abusing the relationship he should feel free to fire me as a patient.

Even with best intentions on both sides sometimes **** happens.

If this is a one time deal then act accordingly.

If it's been a recurring issue, missed appointments, maybe it's time the patient was encouraged to find a new doc.

Outside of office hours I think every Dr's office here says if it's a emergency call 911 or go to a Emergency Care facility. If your handing out your home number that is very rare.

They even have a wait time list so you can see how busy they are: Emergency Department & Urgent Care Wait Times | Winnipeg Health Region

No. That, literally, is what the ER is for. Emergencies when the office is closed. Phone calls are OK.

I have 3 or 4 that are my customers of mine, and it is not uncommon to get texts from them on weekends or after hours with questions about their machines, or equipment. if I need a script written or some med help over the phone anytime i can get it, and have on occasion. However I would not consider asking one of them to see me in their office after hours. I respect their free time.

I have my doctors cell phone number. He knows I would never abuse it. I usually see him in October for my annual physical and follow up. Then perhaps a couple calls a year for advice or to check in. He is fantastic, but will be retiring in the next couple of years.

I effectively don't have a regular Dr. Obamacare sealed that deal a few years ago. Fortunately I know a bunch of them and if I need advice I could call them. If I get in a pickle, off to the ER I go...

I live in the desert and there is a Dermatologist office that is open seven days a week! Other doctors are very easy to see same day.
