How to get rich playing craps

I was in Vegas this weekend at the Palms overindulging in all that is evil, gambling, chasing skirts, overeating, overspending, overeverything. And then I learned how to play craps....

Or learned the basics anyway. How can I get better at this game? What are the pros secrets? What can I read or do to get good at this game and enjoy it more? Share your techniques!

How to get rich playing craps??? Begin playing when you are REALLY rich... Think about it. The opulent surroundings, the pretty girls, the free drinks, the other good times? Gambling winners don't pay for this. Most lose, very few win. This, a lesson I learned the hard way after going to Reno on my 21st birthday weekend. Not that you'll listen, but I offer you this lesson learned the hard way for free...

Sheesh--save the lecturing for your kid's CCD classes. I'm not serious when I say "how can I get rich?". Its a game I'd like to get better at and want to know some tried/true techniques to get better.

I had a friend who was a pit boss, and the crew will offer suggestions on how to play better. Like never play the field, but do place your own number bets. Listen to them, they want you to play better, but you have to realize that all the odds are with house in the long run

Craps is fun, and there is certainly a "best" way to play, but even the best way gives you losing odds in the long run.

Basically, you play the pass line on the come out and then back it up with maximum odds, and always play the come bet and put up max odds on each number. Then, "let 'em roll". Anyone who does not play this way (or some close variation of this) is going to be viewed by the dealers as a sucker.

Also, you need 30-50 times the min bet to fund a long run at the table, so if it's a $10 min bet table, don't start playing until you have $300 otherwse you won't be able to fund the best odds for a long run.

There's got to be lots of books available on the topic. It just boils down to math, really. The odds against you are minimal if you know what you're doing in craps, I believe.

My grandfather used to make a living in the 20's hustling pool and craps. He said he used to rattle the dice in his hand with certain facets touching each other, then roll them on the table on four of the six sides.

Counting cards in blackjack is how you get the odds in your favor, but doing it right is a huge PITA.

"96 across please."

My advise - get a hot girl to roll for you and only wager what you can afford to loose.

That being said - I always go with a limit. Your limit depends on you but don't be stupid until you're way up.

My personal method has me playing conservatively until I am up comfortably. I play the odds on the pass line and I play 6 & 8. I play the minimum until the bet is paid for twice or until the point is hit. Once the 6 or 8 has paid twice I parlay every other hit. For fun I place a buck on hard ways here and there - my favorite is hard 8. One the come out roll you can hedge your bet with a $1 crap check - if it's a good roll you only loose a buck but if it's a bad roll you win $1 (assuming a $5 table).

I usually start a table with $40 and once I'm up to $140 with this method two things happen. I've had a good time and I walk away. I go spend $100 bucks on something fun in vegas and then I hit the table again. On a good weekend I've come away paying for the trip and on a bad weekend I've had a good time in vegas.

Your mileage may vary.

Books about craps tend to be crap but at least the teach you some of the odds.

Stay away from any bet that is not on the line or a number bet. Big six & Eight are rip offs that some casinos don't insult their clients with. Field bets are sucker bets; playing the don't is just plain rough but if you win you win huge.

Craps is fun; so I always look at it as paying to play. The key to anything "bad" like drinking and gambling or driving fast is to know your limits. If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space.

Enjoy!

Only with dice that are out of true. There are dice in museaums and collections going back to Roman times that were cut to favour certain numbers. Casino dice are "true" and cost more to purchase for that reason.

I used to play backgammon fairly seriously and I used to have fun beating friends using loaded dice sometimes. It is surprisingly easy to palm and change dice to the set you want. My objective was not to win with subtlety but to see how long I could drag it out without the other player catching on. The funniest was when my opponent understood I was doing something but did not understand how I was changing the dice, when he confiscated my dice he was left gobsmacked as I continued throwing the numbers I wanted using another set of my dice

If you think craps is fun try playing Perudo.

Ahhh, Craps. Get Rich or get poor, one or the other... It is my game of choice.

Where you play makes a big difference. Subtle things on the table like 6 to1 instead of 6 for 1, 3x payout on 2 or 12 (Field bet), but mostly the odds allowed. The "odds bet" is the only bet in the casino where the Casino doesn't have an advantage on you, so you need to maximize that bet. Play in a casino where they allow 10x and up on the "odds bet". On a $5 pass line bet, that means you can put $50 out on that even bet.

Make sure your bets, when you win, will payout in even dollars. If the casino rounds it, it rounds down. Usually this means bets in multiples of $5.

I used to have a computer game that you could program the bets you would make, then run it out over thousands of dice rolls to see how your "system" would work over the long term. The lesson I learned from it was simple. Bet while the dice are hot!

Exactly! As far as the play itself goes, John C. has it, methinks. This based on info gained from a cousin who did work in a casino. But his best advice came when he pointed to the bridge spanning the Truckee, and said: "If you can't afford to toss the money over that rail, don't put it on a table." People who have a gambling problem shouldn't try to live in Nevada...Some dear friends live in Reno...neither of them gamble. But they do love the shows, the good dining, etc. All of it subsidized by the losers...

What your looking for is someone who is rolling alot of numbers and not 7ening out...hopfully with his point being 4 or 10..then you bet the he11 out of the 6 and 8.....

I once played Craps with a guy who was playing the Don't Pass Line...when he got the dice he bet the Don't Pass Line on himself...he then proceeded to roll 7 straight passes....and was he pissed...as he was doubling his bet each time...

...I play Poker....Lately Holdem and before Seven Card Stud...

I played in a small tournament...it was down to 3 players.....I had AK suited bet 1000...the chip leader studied it for a moment and went all in, the 3rd player folded, I called all in...He had AA....nothing helped either of us on the flop nor the 2 turn cards, so that was it for me.....

Craps is a fast action game, that if you know what yur doing you can minimize the house edge....but it's still 51% house 49% player....

What people don't get is that the Casinos ARE NOT GAMBLING, the house edge in all games is such that eventually YOU WILL LOSE... the house is GUARNTEED A PROFIT.....and when you try to even out the odds by say counting cards at Black Jack...the Casino will decline your action if it gets wind of what you are doing... So there is NO SUCH THING as a level playing field...Even in the rinky dink Poker games I play in the house takes $15 an hour in antes plus 10% of the pot up to $3... so no matter how well you play it's real tough to beat the game...and then you have to beat the players....

There is no casino game that gives you even odds. Ever.

John C. has the tried and true best odds strategy.

The only thing I'd add is to start playing at a old old dirty dive casino on a wed or thurs night...late. Find a $2 table with 10x odds. There's a learning curve with just about anything, so buy yours at a discount. Just don't expect a lot of good looking cocktail servers.

And when I don't play as John C. instructs, I ask for an "inside 44" or a "96 across", or place the 6,8 with max odds.

Tip your dealers and tell them you want help. Tip them for the help, not the outcome of your bet.

Last... the real answer to your question is - buy a casino. It's good to be the house.
