Remodeling Cost Question

Has anyone ever resurfaced a castiron tub? I just spilled some paint remover in it and it peeled the thin layer.

Does anyone know how much does it cost to resurface?

I havent resurfaced a cast iron tub, but I think its odd that some paint remover removed the porcelain glaze that would be on a cast iron stove!

There are many places that can "renew" the tub

I thought it was odd too. What else can this tub be surfaced with?

It has been years, but it cost be about 200 per tub.

That was many years ago, they come in and get it done in a day.

Yes, you will. They actually paint the tub with an enamel paint. Lasts 8-10 years.

The original surface is (I believe) a fused silica and was applied to the iron tub and then placed in a tunnel oven at the factory. The new surface they will apply is an epoxy paint. 200 bucks is about right. It must have been resurfaced with paint before if paint thinner is attacking it. Paint thinner wouldn't do squat to the original true enamel surface.

i had scheduled a tub to be redone. it was old, stained and trashed from me re-tiling. the guy came out and looked at it, buffed it, did some patching and did not even have to reglaze it. the entire redo would have been $500, got the work i descride for 175.

there is nation wide franchise that did my work. i have info at work with the name. if you still are searching after monday i can post the name.

Post it. Thank you thank you thank you.

I'm currently renting and I know I'll have to pay for it now or later, so I might as well enjoy the fixup (plus, I hate the way it looks anyway). 175 sounds much better than 500.

Hey man, it's a temporary stop. After I sold the house, I didn't know where to buy...transition and all...

That's the "worst" part of the place. It's really a cute place.

You gonna come and fix the tub for me now?

Not that I would ever suggest doing so, but if this is not your tub and you renting you could use applience touch-up paint which should work.

Along that same line, if you have any wall dings, wet TP followed by tooth paste worked in college - just don't use the blue or green stuff, stands out like a sore thumb!
