Cell Phone Jammer!

We all need a Cell Phone Jammer

I'm fed up with the guy on the phone on the ski slope talking about dividends, I'm fed up with the person in the same line as me chattering about when to pick up the kids forgetting they are holding 15 of us up, not to mention we have to endure a clip of their pathetic life.....I'm fed up of driving to work, wondering why there are 10 vehicles in front of me and one holding everyone up, then to pass them and find out they are chat'n away on the cell......I'm fed up with the women in the adjacent cubicals chattering with their husbands and girlfriends all frickin' day!
Let the Jamming begin.

Reminds me when I used to drive NY to Chicago on 80 and we made a device called a "Zapper" and played this game called "herding the nerds".

The Zapper was a frequency tuned garage door opener that would lite off radar detectors.

We would let the nerds in their Mercs and Beamers pass us with their window dectectors and then Zap them to make them slow down and pull right.

The game was how many we could herd in behind a large truck. Hence the name.... "herding the nerds".

Muhahhahaha.

Wish I was in Cali or somewhere where I could still play with it......

A guy I know has one. Says it works great in restaurants but car-to-car you have to be really close.

I'd be happy with a jammer specifically made for Nextel 'walkie-talkie' style phones. Those people are just downright rude. Not only do you have to endure the details of their trailer trash life, you have to listen to the beeps and the idiot on the other end of the phone as well!

I thought this might be an interesting electronics project, so I googled it. A very common phrase in the search results was "$11000 and a year in prison."

Gues it's back to building a MegaSquirt....

What if you modded your car's ignition system to put out interference on a specific range of frequencies?

I just ran down and got some coffee. I watched some betty drive up, talking on the phone, talked the entire time she got out of the car, waited in line, ordered, got her drink, walked out and drove off - the entire time! WTF can be that enthralling? Maybe it's just because I'm a guy. I saw a girl the other day chatting on a phone, a ringtone goes off, she puts that one aside and pulls a second phone out of her purse and answers it!

The Israeli's developed this system years ago but its illegal in the US. Funny thing, its being purchased in Mexico by Churches as they are tired of the cell phones ringing, but then they have no legality issue there.

Works very well, just illegal in the states... wish it was not!

Thom, its a girl thing. Our flight attendent can talk for 10 hours a day without a problem. I love that VoIP commercial where the chick talks for 6 hours non-stop and the hubby gets on her case. She needs a talking to IMHO...

No, I think you know my feelings on WalMart Unfortunatly the Nextel is a necessity for communicating with my service guys. What most people dont understand is that it has a "private" setting so that the entire bank, store, whatever doesnt have to listen in.

just to temper this argument.

There are times when you need to make urgent calls, besides the 911 type things.

Are your kids/familly members sick/dying or in hospital. Are you trying to sort out a household emergency ?

Think if you were on the phone and somone jammed you.

Its all very easy for us to moan about people, but we also need to think of situations were in at the sametime.

I think indiscrimnate use of jammers is wrong, if some stupid person is just yapping non-stop about crud then fairplay

Don't also forget that by stopping people from using a phone is like somone saying you can't drive your Porsche cos there jealous.

just another view and my 2c's

In this month's Nuts & Volts is a spycam detector. You scan the room and the lens gets picked up on a scope.

My empathy meter isn't even lifting off the peg. If your family members are dying in the hospital, then WTF are you doing in a movie theater chatting about shopping? If your phone call is so damn important, then either move your ass somewhere more private, or actually go deal with the situation in person.

I have Nextel. I use the "private" feature except when at home. I also don't use the cell phone when driving. People know to call me and leave a message, and I'll usually call them back within an hour (when I've reached some place suitable for a private conversation).

For a while, my friends thought it was funny to direct connect to me and just start talking (rather than alert first). I'd be in meetings and some voice would start coming out of my pants pocket!

What is the point of the NexTel "Captain Kirk" phones, anyway? Is it to make you more appealing to green-haired alien women?

Agreed! Back in the ol' days when phones were attached to a wall, there were family emergencies, and people were able to deal with them accordingly. When I was a kid, we'd hang out at the mall - the only time we needed a phone was to call mom or dad to pick us up. I don't get why, especially teenagers absolutely NEED a cell phone, and absolutely MUST be in touch with someone all the time. Cut me a break!

I'm not saying that the cell phone isn't good for emergencies - it can be very helpful. But too many people use that as an excuse to chit-chat on the phone to the point where it effects other people.

My personal pet-peeve cell phone use: the dude talking LOUDLY in the store on a cell phone - so loud you can hear it down the next isle over. Next time I see that, I'm going to say something to said idiot.

As for cell phone use in the car - I use it frequently in the car, with a hands free ear-bud device. I have a 45 minute commute, and my folks live in Florida, and this is a time when I have a chance to catch up with them - 2 -3 times a week I do this. I do make sure not to talk about things that are upsetting, and I do keep an eye on the road - the highways I travel on are not very busy. (If traffic occurs, I stop talking). No one beeps me, flashes me, or gives me the finger as they pass (or I pass them), so hopefully I'm still driving properly.

Just my $0.42,
-Z.

Um, not to nit-pick, but it's the GREEN SKINNED women that they are after!
