Lady Luck

A month or so ago, neighbors across the road had a little BBQ party thing. A couple in their mid 30's, both celebrating the "2nd time around" thing. Two nice kids...13 year old girl, 11 year old boy. Nice people..Glad they bought the place. Dug right in. starting remodeling, when not at work, always working to repair & improve the place. Previous owner had decided to drink himself to death...and did just that. Trust me, NOT a glamorous thing as in the movie Leaving Los Vegas. Just a damned sad story.

Anyway, at this party, the 13 year old showed me a find...a kitten, eyes not open. She & her mom on a walk, spotted 3 abandoned in a ditch. 2 already dead...So, a true "rescue". The kitten was taken to a Vet, who suggested termination, giving it little chance of survival...but IF she wanted to try, it would require feedings every two hours, around the clock, being kept warm and safe, etc.

Susannah said she'd do it. Well, 13 year olds say lots of things. I wished her good luck, and warned her to try not to get too attached.

Yesterday, Susannah & her parents were outside. so I crossed the road..had to ask how it went with the kitten. The kitten, named "lady luck", is not weaned yet, but doing well! Susanna did as she promised...became the kitten's mother. It's eyes are open, walks in a staggering manner, mews...not weaned yet, but will take a bit of wet food from Susannah's fingertip. Well on her way to becoming a spoiled and loved cat. A miracle, really.

Well, this just made my day. Many congratulations and respect to Susannah. I told her nobody can save the world, but she sure had saved a small piece of it! She's the cat's mother, but her brother is it's uncle..he pitching in as well.

Gotta tell ya...Kids these days!

I hope get gets it "fix" ASAP so there will not be more unwanted kittens and total idiots that dispose of them like that. Lucky kitty for sure.

Didn't ask, but I'm sure that will happen when the time is right. They already have pets. Two dogs and another cat, all neutered.

Great story.

Too many adults throw the towel in way too early. I've seen it and will never understand how people can be so pessimistic and miserable.

Sorry to get off on a tangent.

There's a message here......don't listen to the skeptics, keep chargin', and never give up!

Something so simple at this age could put her on the path to becoming a veterinarian from a successful experience like this. This sounds like my wife 40 years ago, but she was encouraged by her Father to find another profession, because at the time, virtually no women were in the Vet field.

Great story, Paul.

Quick sea story. When I graduated from HS, a friend of mine and I did a kayaking trip trip in the Smokies.

On the way back, driving out of Helen, Georgia, we stopped to take a leak on the two lane rural road we were on, middle of nowhere.

I heard two meows and looked around and found two kittens, both in fairly good shape.

Both became barn cats at our stable in South Carolina and lived over 15 years each.

Lucky, lucky!

Lucky, lucky!

Lucky indeed! Those two did "win the lottery of life".

So many loving animals out there...some on death row for the crime of being born.
Neuter your pets, folks. And perhaps some of your relatives as well.

Several years ago my daughter was away at college and found a stray kitten wandering around and it was just about gone.
It was older than the one in the OP but was still too young to survive on it's own.
She nursed it back to health and brought it home when she graduated, and my wife fell in love with that cat.
It's ours now, and spoiled rotten. i was never much of a cat person but this one is kinda cool.

I ain't gonna go around posting cat pictures all over the inter-webs tho

A group of friends are meeting up for their monthly round of golf when Jim shows up.
Paul says "Hey Jim".

Jim says "Don't call me Jim anymore, now you have to call me Lucky!
You know that plane crash the other day where 200 people died? Well I missed that flight or I would have been 201".

Next month at the golf game everyone shouts "Hey Lucky!" when Jim arrives.
"Guys, you have to call me Lucky Lucky now!
You know that bus crash where 39 people died?
Well if I hadn't gotten off that bus one stop earlier, I would have been number 40".

The following month they once again meet up for golf when everyone sees Jim they shout "Hey Lucky Lucky".

"Sorry guys, now you have to call me Lucky Lucky Lucky!
I was having sex with this woman and her husband came home and shot me in the butt!"
"How is that lucky?" "Because 30 seconds sooner and he would have shot me in the back of the head".
