This is actually true. I met a guy once, around 1980, a retired engineer, who designed and built bulb prototypes that have been installed and working for five decades, as of the time I spoke with him. Unfortunately, this design is not available for sale. A manufacturer of light bulbs purchased the patent and will not market them. they last too long.

Isn't he the same guy who invented the engine that runs on energy from the earths magnetic field and never needs a tune up?

KevinP73 03-29-2005 01:26 PM

Ooh, I got one!

2 to argue whether the Haynes recommended torque on a lightbulb is acceptable, or if they should go with the lower number in the manufacturer's lightbulb manual.

M.D. Holloway 03-29-2005 01:42 PM

and then an MIT grad to start up a light-bulb parts company out of his garage, write some books on it, start an internet service and get 25K people from around the world to tune-in.

And then there is the upgrade to Light Emiting Diodes which reduce the weight of the car and cause less drain on power, thereby improving performance and battery life.
