AV/Computoer geeks - Ideas on home computer system?

I looking for a new home computer and looking at the new Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 operating system. I want to do the usual stuff, record TV shows for later viewing, manage my Ipod library, store and edit photos/videos, and a limited amount of wordprocessing and general business tasks. Can this even be done with a HD cable hook up (the type with 5-6 connections from the cable company)?

All I really know is more GB on the HD and faster the processor the better. ANy help is appreciated.
