THis should result in some intertesting responses.

Could be that with so many "Wierdos" already out there (your words), perhaps there is mutual attraction like gravity!!

funny, but the weirdos all see to be people who *moved* here. The natives are perfectly sane.

Its all you tourists deciding to live here that is screwing things up.

Natives: hum, is that
1) the indigenous native americans
2) the later Mexicans who settled here and had the land grants
3) the gold rush immigrants
4) the Chinese who came here to build the railroads
5) the pre WW1 influx
6) the post WW2 influx
7) the flower child migration of the 60-70's
8) the dot com people of the 90's

where do you draw the line?

maybe it is the acceptance of alternate life styles, somewhat libertarian view, let do and let live attitude.

Cali ain't weird, it's everywhere else. As far as attitude and culture, I don't think I could stand anywhere else. Too uptight / redneck / stodgy / cold / snowy for me.

That's where I draw the line...because that's when my relatives got here

But seriously...San Diego was an amazing place to grow up in during the 60's and 70's. Man has it changed....

Even so, I don't know that I could live anywhere else. CA is different than the rest of the country.

Why don't you just tell everyone what drew you to our greatly diversified state?

It's the wide assortment of nutjobs that keeps this place interesting. It also makes it easier to blend in. Kind of like surrounding yourself with stupid/ugly friends so it makes you look smart/handsome in comparison.

"Natives: hum, is that
1) the indigenous native americans"

Uh, even those aren't native. Most anthropologists think that native N.Americans came from Asia across the land-bridge at the Bering Straight when it connected present-day Siberia with Alaska. But more recent linguistics analysis of "native" Californian Chumash Indians show a remarkable resemblance to the S.Pacific Polenesian languages. This would seem to indicate they traveled from Asia via sea, to the islands, then to S. America and worked their way up north...

As for Cali being a bunch of kooks, the more the merrier!!!

Is it true that Arizona is populated by people that were trying to get to California but ran out of gas or their car broke down?

I'm just checking, I heard that someplace.

Look at the guy on either side of you. If they appear normal, then you're the weirdo.

Some of us used to live in SoCal and got tired of the wacky politics (way liberal) and not going to pay the crazy prices for property! Lived in San Diego in the mid-80s and it was very nice but not for me.

If you love the desert then its hard to get away from this area. Have lived in 5 different countries and seen the world but like the desert. Was away for almost 20 years then got the chance to return and jumped at it.

No, was not out of gas either!

Last I checked, California had the largest population and largest number of electoral votes. I guess those "wacky liberal" politics appeal to more than the handful of cactus-dwellers elsewhere in the Southwest, huh?

Yep your right....but MANY of those new Cactus dwellers WERE former OLD TIMEY Californians...who knew the place when it was Paradise and not a Paved Over Parking Lot...full of indigient newcomers. Those former Old Timey Californians were the adventerous ones who opened CA for the multiudes to follow, now they have merely moved on to the next frontier just a little further East....

Keep your Californians out of Nebraska and everything'll be fine. Things are getting weird enough around here.
