Schiavo parents authorize sale of donor list

The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups ...... Gary McCullough, director of the Christian Communication Network and a spokesman for Ms. Schiavo's parents, confirmed that Mr. Schindler had agreed to let Response Unlimited rent out the list as part of a deal for the firm to send an e-mail solicitation raising money on the family's behalf.

I did not read the article............but my first thought is they must be tight for money and are trying to cover some legal cost.

This whole thing and everything around it just sucks and keeps on sucking.

Had she been allowed to live, would the parents have the financial wherewithall to care for her in the long term?

This raises the issue that MAY have started the parents war with the husband in the first place. It "has been reported" that the parents wanted to SHARE in the $1 million malpratice suit settlement that Terri and her husband won.
The parents wanted some/all of the money and they would take care of her. When he said no, the money was going to be spent on Terri and her care by professionals, the war started.

Now they are selling the list of names..... $omething $mell$ real bad.

The original settlement gave him either 300 or 350 k for loss of companionship. The rest of it was put into a court managed care account.

I remember hearing the same story myself one time.

One thing that was recently in the news was the fact that the parents had also decided to pull the plug on one of their parents who still had a fully functional brain, but who had become a bit of a burden on them in their old age. Nice double standard, huh?

Interestingly enough their congressional shrill, Delay, also had the plug pulled on one of his parents for exactly the same reason.

Nice hypocrisy, huh?

That's just blatantly false.

Delay's father didn't have a fully functioning brain. And Tom Delay certainly didn't pull the plug due to the burden in his old age - he was a young-ish man at that time. For that matter, it wasn't a "burden" on any of the Delay family, as they were wealthy. Also, it was a unanimous decision by the entire family.

There are some similarities, like that they suspended life support on a family member - I guess that's enough for some leftist wackos to call Delay a hypocrite, 'cause they are.

But, in 1979 his farther was in a coma, had breathing equipment, intravenous lines, etc. and there was no question he would ever recover. He certainly didn't follow balloons around the room with his eyes (but that's a minor point and not really worthy of response). HARDLY the same thing.

Terri didn't follow anything with her eyes either, despite the fables constantly repeated by her parents.

As far as the same reason I was referring to with delay, its the fact that his family decided to pull the plug on his dad when the doctors said he had irreversable brain damage was the same reason they pulled terri's feeding tube, but despite that he accuses terry's husband of being a murderer for doing exactly what he did .

Thats definantly hypocrisy despite your pathetic attempt at name calling.

Again, blatantly false. Is this a compulsion for you?

I saw her do it - with my eyes. Now, you can argue that it was coincidence (as some doctors said, but others refuted), but don't say it didn't happen.

You likely saw 10 seconds selected out of hours of video where terri's eyes and the balloon coincidentally intersect.

All the experts that have reviewed all of the video footage and have tested terri in person say that its bunk.

Dude, you hit the trifecta!

Not nearly ALL the experts have agreed. The two doctors, appointed by her family, didn't agree, and they were experts. There are also other experts (one from Mayo Clinic, I believe) who have reviewed ALL the video AND conducted personal evaluations that didn't agree - but you know that (it's obvious you are indeed well read). Again, in fairness, the two husband's AND the court expert (as well as others, I'm sure) DID agree. But, that sure doesn't constitute "all" of them.

Besides, what I saw "appeared" to show her following the movement... not looking at a space where a balloon happened to be. But, you're right in that it was short clip and I don't know that it was conclusive. But, none of that really matters any more...

I think that's the defining point. Only thing is, Delay's truly put himself on the map, and up to additional scrutiny. Whether he can or cannot withstand this additional scrutiny, we shall see.

This was pretty much my reaction as well. I can understand that the family may have debt incurred from their legal battle, but IMHO it stinks to high heaven that they're trying to bail themselves out by betraying the trust of the very people who were trying to help them in the first place.
