Why would you want to use SQL server? It can't scale. ;)

Anyone wanna start a pool on when the first exploit hits the net?

Shuie 05-06-2005 12:21 PM

My former employer was a SQL Servier 2000 shop. That was my first experience with an enterprise database platform. Since then Ive been working almost exclusively in Oracle and DB2. I still know more about SQL Server than both Oracle or DB2 at this point, but I would probably take either over MS SQL Server. Oracle for sure. FWIW, we never had any security issues with SQL Server.

root@localhost # apt-get install mssql
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package mssql

Hrm... looks like I'll have to stick with MySQL and Postgres

Shuie 05-06-2005 12:29 PM

Man, I feel like a geek for laughing at that. My next machine will be a MAC. I cant wait to start playing aorund with UNIX.

I work with DB2 on Z/OS. No one person could possibly know everything about it.

Big Iron!

Jeebus help us.

I can see a lot of people calling in because the new service pack fuct their SQL install.

(I do server support at Dell... 2k3 SP1 caused headaches on factory installed OS's...)

Shuie 05-06-2005 12:36 PM

we were on SP2. Honestly, we didnt have many problems with the database. Must have been a clean install ;)
