Cloudy weekends are p*ssing me off
Seems like lately the only good weather here in So Cal is during the week and it's really getting to me. I've spent the last two years building a new kayak ( and I thought there was a lot of sanding when painting Porsche's) and now that I'm ready to put in the weather sucks. If I weren't so busy at the shop I'd take a day off when the sun was shining but noooooo can't do that!!
And before I get any ***** from you surfers just remember you like being in the water, I like being ON the water. That and there's that whole shark issue. Here's a couple pics just to kill some time. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for letting me vent.

Two years?!?! We do these over the winter up here...
![]() Looks like a Chesapeake LT 16' kit...I'm partial to these guys, built a few of them. Although I just helped a buddy nail down the deck on his CLC LT 17' boat...nice kit...right on par with Pygmy's stuff. Love the brass nail w/ the curved tortured deck look. FWIW, another friend just bought this one for duck hunting at the mouth of the Snohomish River here. Oh, and don't worry about the sharks...they don't like mahogany splinters ![]()

Yep two years, obviously not a full time effort. And it's my first attempt at a building anything I couldn't use a torch or grinder on. It's a whole different monster this wood stuff. It's a CLC 17 LT. I like the Pygmy boats also but didn't know of them when I decided to buy a kit.
Still can't wait to get it into the water, maybe tomorrow will be warm enough.

Well, it looks as though you did a very nice job.
I only know of Pygmy cuz' they're just across Puget Sound from us...nice little ferry ride away and they have plenty of demo boats to try...they're located on a marina in Port Townsend, WA. Check out the owners profile...it's a decent read. My buddy who just finished his CLC LT 17' was offered a job on the spot at Pygmy (by the owner) when he took his first effort back to them to show it off. Yes...he knows what he's doing....been building wooden sailboats for years. I've learned a little but still paddle my first effort: a big old Pygmy Queen Charlote XL or my old fiberglass Current Designs Solstice XL. Get her in the water soon...you'll love it. Single chine hull design should be nice and stable for you ocean waters...

My first kayak was a CD. Not sure what model it was, just remember it being long and beat up. Bought it from some old guy when I lived in Kingston. I moved to Fort Lawton (now Discovery Park) and would carry it about 1/2 mile just to get to the water. Nothing down here even begins to compare with paddling around The Sound. I've been to Catalina and harbor islands it's not even close. But it beats nothing at all.
