I need Your Help Convincing My Wife!
OK, it's not what you think (but I could use that as well). There is a pretty sweet 95 993 for sale for a great price. I drove it last night and was very impressed. Hinted today about "we are going to have to start think about what to do with the Volvo Honey - it is going to be 10 yrs old."
So she said, "lets sell it, how much do you think you could get for it?" Now normally this would be an indicator for an open door slam dunk close. So we discussed the potetial selling prices, then she says "And your not getting another Porsche!" My gut tightened. Knowing that this part of the conversation was as important as any major deal I have closed in the past 15 years, I needed to approch it with as much tact and savvy as I could muster. Heck, I closed way bigger deals than this! This was my wife. I know what makes her tic. I can wrap her around my finger and have room left over for dessert! "Why not?" I whinned...I blew it. I felt like my Mom just told me I couldn't stay up an extra 10 minutes. "Why not just get a Carrolla or a Camry." She said. THE HORROR! I would rather be accused of robbing from the Church! I had to go into "Safe Mode" and recover or all will be lost and I will end up peddling around in a toyota... "Hmmm. Well, you raise a very good point. Let me think about that and get back to you. Thanks for listening." OK - composure regained. Now - think man think! What to do? Agh...Pelicans! ALways a source for insight and inspiration. OK - so, here we stand my fellow brothas - HELP! Gimme some ammo and don't pull the 'I'm the man and this is the way it is going to be' stuff - I want to keep getting some tail and that won't fly. Pulling the middle-age crisis worked for the Targa but it is played out and I need a fresh angle. I look forward to hearing from you!

Make a sacrifice and get rid of the Fisher-Price Jeep Wrangler as well.
![]() I'd just keep being nice and slowly gnawing away at her. Offer her the opportunity to get something she's been wanting for a while.

You sound like our president. As far as the P-car thing is concerned, well, what do the property settlement laws look like in your state? Seriously, quid pro quo sounds like the order of the day.

Just buy it without her permission. Worked well for nostatic...oh, wait...
FWIW I pulled off the two Porsche garage for awhile. Tough nut to crack I must say. It helped that the 944 was her fathers old car and well, it was just a ratty old waterpumper... I wish you all the luck...

Quid pro quo. Gotta keep the wife happy as well as yourself. If she is happy, you will get the, uhm, Porsche!!!
Mine is working to figure out how we can afford a Hers Porsche, something in a sunroof coupe. She is NOT for sale, the wife that is...

I am in the same boat....last night, going over the maint. records of a car I am looking at, my wife hints..."you're not buying a Porsche"...Door slammed, locked, key swallowed.
I put my foot down, went to the cubbord, grabbed the jar holding my testicles, and placed them firmly between my legs...and proclaimed...."I will buy what I want with my money"... First time in our young marriage we slept in separate beds... so, help Lubemaster...help me.

As far as "just do it and ask for forgiveness, well thats what I did with the Targa. Work once, but as some of you may know, slip it in the other hole once is forgiven, do it without permission is a death sentence! Quid pro quo - problem is, she has all she wants. Her main bone of contention best I can figuer is that a 993 wouldn't be good as a kid friendly / get stuff / beat-on car. Heck, let the curtain climbers take a taxi!

I'm hunting as we speak, and I've been able to justify it by running an older car and doing all the maintenance myself to keep our car costs low. She's very cautious financially, so I really leveraged the no/low depreciation aspect. It sealed the deal. Having said that, she may put up a stink when it comes time to close the deal.

I bought my wife a 912E. She likes having a Porsche of her own, and does a great job tolerating the other Porsches.

I gather this 993 deal is time sensitive. The 993, if priced well, may sell sooner than your wife is ready to let you buy a car, no? If you had more time, you can slowly but consistently bring up the subject about buying another Porsche to her.
On the first day, tell her that the 993 is more comfortable then show her interior pics. The next day, describe how more fuel efficient the 993 is. Day after that, let her know how much easier it is to drive. Day after that day, tell her how much safer it is than the Volvo because you can get out of the way before an accident happens, etc. Most deals require many visits by the sales rep before closing, but one should "close" every time. If she says you can only have one Porsche, you might say you'll decide which one to keep after you've had both for a while. Sort of like an extended test drive but, in reality, puppydogging it. Just some random thoughts. Let me know what you think. This is what I'm doing to convince my wife to let me buy another vehicle. She nixed the idea of a third Porsche (Boxster) but I'm sure she'll let me buy a cheaper roadster soon. |

I must be lucky. My wife would never tell me what I should or should not buy. Never. Of course it works both ways. I would never tell her what she should spend money on. Disclaimer; This only works if both partners are reasonable and not reckless spenders by nature.

My wife won't let me drive on Saturday.
