I saw my first Smart car today

Pulling out of a parking lot after lunch I saw the new 2 seater Smart fortwo car. Took a look inside. Tiny isnt the word for it. It was a partial convertible, kinda reminded me of a Suzuki Samauri. Very interesting look. Two ugly women drivers wiith a "SCUBADVR" lisense plate.

The SMART cars are not coming to the US. In fact they are scaling back production in Europe as well.

There are several here in Huntington.

See em all the time.

They even have dedicated parking with charging at the train station.

They make a lot of sense in congested Euro cities, eg Paris, where the average (parallel) car park space if about 80% the size of a medium sized car...

I always wondered how they would go with a high power sports bike engine (like, GSR1300, 175hp sort of thing).

I'm surprised they're scaling back production. They went on sale here in Ontario last year, and from what I understand, the dealerships can't keep them in stock. It's a 2-3 month waiting list for the cabrios. I think it's a bit easier to get a coupe. They're not electric or diesel (at least not the ones on sale here). They're just extremely fuel efficient, and really cheap ($16K for the coupe, $19 for the cabrio, with about $3k in options available, if memory serves). Something like $4 in gas for a 250km trip, at about $0.80/litre.

The new CEO said they don't contribute enough to the bottom line. Buy them now. Perhaps Z-man will ring in the true MB party line, I get it from my brother who works there. Here's some fun photos of the standard one (not the sport).

If the Porsche gets you no attention, try this!
