Greetings to the Governor from WAZZU

Funny story about some Washington State University accounting students saying hello to "governor" Gregoire.

Thanks Bryan.

The dems know they are on weak legal ground. They're pushing new taxes though, while the pushing is good.

A lot of us are hopeful that a re-vote happens soon.

As I have said before, if one one hundredth of one percent of votes are miscounted, then out of two million votes there would be two hundred miscounted votes. If any of you have ever supervised keystroke workers, there is an expected error rate that is difficult to get below, and it is WAY higher than one hundredth of one percent. Getting below that error rate can only be accomplished by going so slowly that many additional workers are needed to accomplish the data entry.

Combine this well-known brute fact with you guys' hatred of gubmint and your tendency to starve those offices for budget and staffing resources and whaddya get? Those if you who think a few hundred errors out of millions of votes is going to be a slam dunk victory in court are, I think, very much mistaken. And to illustrate why I very strongly doubt that a court is going to overturn this election result (besides the long appeals process that this decision would necessitate in order to become final), consider this:

Let's say a judge orders a recount. Who is going to conduct the recount, and what makes you think that a republican will win and what makes you think a new lawsuit will not be filed. How would you like it if, instead of auditors being responsible for "certifying" elections, what if "certification" meant nothing and all elections in the future are decided by courts?

Nevermind. You guys want gubmint to work so poorly, I think you'd actually be attracted to this idea. Well, I like my community, my laws and government, and my country too much to think like you guys. Plus, I feel like I've BTDT. Not trying to sound arrogant, etc. Just saying I've worked in high-volume data coding end other gubmint environments, and if you guys think we should have squeaky-accurate tallies of millions of votes, you're dreaming. And the juducial community is smart enough to understand that, and to understand what a mess we'd have if elections were ALWAYS inaccurate (which they are) and ALWAYS decided by courts. Courts have a way of deflecting unnecessary work.

So you're saying we should have stayed with the first count; right?

. . .or maybe the second count?

Supe, how much dinero would we save if we fired all the ballot counters and just flipped a coin to decide a winner? Let's cut the budget a little more and see how we do.

Superpalooka, take a deep breath, you're scaring the neighbors! You really need to just relax a little bit, you're wound up tighter than a $2 watch. If you're not careful, you might bust a blood vessel.

The vote counters are probably being paid by the hour, so it's in their interest to make sure that there is another recount, after another recount, after another recount. We need an investigation, there's definitely something more fishy here than we previously thought. Collusion between thousands of vote counters to defraud the state and keep things close, so they can keep counting instead of getting real jobs.

It's not that we hate the "gubmint" [sic], it's just that we don't worship it as you do.

Add the 'keystoke supervisors' to the conspiracy. Sounds like they've got a pretty sweet deal going too. Man, if I didn't have to have a real job... I'd be watching people type all day for the "gubmint" [sic].

I don't think the accuracy of the count is the issue any more. It sounds more like well-planned fraud; old-time ballot box stuffing. Even beyond the stuffing, the contortions employed, particularly in King County, to avoid counting absentee ballots submitted by our overseas troops. If ever there should have been extraordinary measures taken and allowances given, it should have been to count those ballots. Quite the contrary; there was a great deal of effort expended to ensure they would not be counted.

This is precisely the perception that is being deliberately promoted. But then, we're told that conspiracy theorists wear tin foil hats. That being the case, I have a question. Is your hat pointy on the top like a dunce cap, or some other more customary hat-shape?

Bryan, I like my triple-digit diastolic blood pressures. It makes giving blood quick and easy. I win all my blood drive races. Imagine what I might have been like as a young man. You're getting the cool, calm relaxed Superman now that I'm old.

Actually, I was in charge of getting the data into the computer system, ensuring a reasonable level of accuracy and generating reports - serving customers' data needs, etc. Part of the job was understanding the data entry process, monitoring the work rates of the data entry folks along with their error rates, etc. Besides a fistful of "coders" there were two research folks who systematized the data, generated standard reports and ad hoc (spur of the moment emergency) reports, etc. And bear in mind that gubmint does not "sample" or keep statistics on a few companies who pay them. Nope. Gubmint data is commonly ALL of some activity that occurs in the state. So, the volume of data is gargantuan. Imagine if you had the responsibility of keeping data on all industrial injuries statewide, and generating reports to attorneys and courts, legislature, etc. and attesting to the reliability of those reports. So, it wasn't just standing around staring at folks who are working. It'd be convenient for gubmint-haters if you could get away with mischaracterizing a job like that as nose-picking and you can do that with idiots, but it still would not be true. And it doesn't work with people who know a little something, or can think.

And always imagine me smiling as I post. I usually am.

Several counties came up with identical numbers for the mandatory recount.

Maybe I should cover my crash helmet in tin foil; it's about the only "hat" I wear these days. Say, going a little "off topic" for a moment, I see you are in Woodinville now. Does that mean you'll be joining us at some of the XXX Saturdays, now that you are closer? You could show me how to make a proper hat...
