Cali freeway shootings. What the he!l is going on here!

We just had another freeway shooting in So Cal. The 2nd out of 14 in the past few months within 1/4 mile of my office. just took place yesterday. It's bad enough that most people in California can't drive, but now we have some idiot(s) taking pot shots at people, and it's getting a little too close for comfort. This isn't LA it's Orange County! Cali is really starting to suck hard!

I am so glad California has strick gun control laws. I would hate to think what could happen if criminals could get a hold of a gun.

Can't wait to pack it up and get outta here.

ooooh the irony ;)

I am confused as well! I thought carry permits were incredibly rare in Cali, no? Hmmmm

From what I was told, CA has it issued by county, it's only good within where it was issued and it's LA County that has the de facto CWP ban.

It's not that they don't allow CWP's but it's subject to "as needed" approvals.

That's pretty much true, but in Orange County all you need to do is give enough money to the re-election campaign for the D.A. He'll hook you up with a CWP. If you give enough money he'll give you a gun too.

But I thought you couldn't have a gun in the car in Kalifornistan?!?!

They should ban highways. For the children.

Sounds like you're making an argument for more gun control laws.

If someone wants to use a gun in the commission of a crime, laws really aren't going to stop them. I think that's obvious. Laws to keep kids from taking M-16s to school 'for self defense' are nice to have though.

bryanthompson 05-10-2005 12:49 PM

They should just ban fingers.

Except the middle one - just to make it interesting...

Pow. Pow. Pow.

"Ten Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies opened fire early Monday on an SUV they were chasing, discharging 120 rounds in a frenzied crossfire that injured a deputy and the unarmed suspect while sending bullets into nearby homes."

Something in the water out there????

If your kids want to take M16s to school for 'self defense', then it is a problem with society, not the firearm itself.

Kids shouldn't have a need for 'self defense' at school.

Assault is a behavior, not a device. ;)

Maybe the wrong people are carrying the guns.

FrayAdjacent911 05-10-2005 01:39 PM

Too many people think the Police are some superhuman, super moral beings, that are specially deserving or capable of the responsibility of carrying firearms.

Not quite true... Cops are just regular people who have a different career.

Though some that I know personally, are very well qualified to carry a firearm. One local cop I know was an NRA certified instructor, and had been INVITED to the Marine Sniper school at Quantico.

bryanthompson 05-10-2005 01:48 PM

Total distortion of what actually happened. The guy led them on a chase through the neighborhood, then almost ran into a house, backed up and attempted to run into the cops, according to the articles I read. 120 shots might have been a little excessive, but I'd like to see rocket launchers on every cop car. High speed chase? i don't think so, blow the scumbag clean off the road.

gaijindabe 05-10-2005 01:55 PM

120 rounds later:

"Hayes was struck four times, in the toe, finger and shoulder."
"A deputy, Edward Clark, was struck in the upper part of his protective vest during the crossfire."

Keystone Kops meets Wild, Wild West. It looks like a lack of training. Rule #1 - know where and who you are shooting at. This is residentail neighborhood for goodness sakes...

But this one aint the best of the day.

"Pregnant woman 'Tasered' by police is convicted":

"I said, 'Well, I'll take the ticket, but I won't sign it,' " Brooks testified.
Officer Donald Jones joined Ornelas in trying to persuade Brooks to sign the ticket. They then called on their supervisor, Sgt. Steve Daman.

He authorized them to arrest her when she continued to refuse.
The officers testified they struggled to get Brooks out of her car but could not because she kept a grip on her steering wheel.

And that's when Jones brought out the Taser."

Nice, real nice.

.

FrayAdjacent911 05-10-2005 02:15 PM

I see dumb people... a lot in kalifornia, but they're really everywhere... they're dumb and they don't even know it....

campbellcj 05-10-2005 11:16 PM

Not sure if I can believe it, but the LA County Sheriff PR spin is that the freeway shootings are 'nothing new' and are actually happening at average rates if not less than in prior years. They are implicitly pointing the finger at the media for making a big deal out of this issue.

What I have not heard mentioned at all thus far, is that California code dictates severe automatic penalty escalations for various firearms violations when vehicles are involved; these codes are obviously targeted torwards the gang bangers. I don't have the specifics handy but basically the sentence for the same firearm related infraction is quite different if the perp is standing on terra firma vs. inside a vehicle.

Maybe Arnold can do for California what GWB has done for Iraq.

bryanthompson 05-11-2005 06:57 AM

No way, Kalifornia is already a lost cause. We should've pulled our troops out long ago.
