Two Girls Found Slain in Northern Ill. Park

The bodies of Laura Hobbs, 8, and Krystal Tobias, 9, were discovered Monday morning by an area resident on a stroll in a heavily wooded area at 6:03 a.m. CDT. The girls, who attended the same elementary school and were described as best friends, had not been heard from since going out to ride their bicycles together Sunday afternoon.

What can we do to put an end to this insanity? Life sentences for certain types of sex crime offenders? Death penalties? Something has to be done.

IIRC, it's said that these people CAN'T be rehabilitated. If this is the case, we need to control them somehow. Apparently, the Honor System isn't working.

afaik 1.5-2% of the population is psycho social. At one time they were more likely to be weeded out thru a formal family, school, and social environment. Society knew what it had and somewhat dealt with a prob. Now society seems to foster or allow a psycho to develop until it's a crisis.

Those that would do something like this deserve public execution and I joketh not. Our justice system the way it is currently structured is a farce. Our Gov spent how many millions to prosecute Martha Stewart while we have predators crawling all over the place.

Why only shoot the POS if it was your daughter or someone you knew? No child anywhere on this planet, known or unknown to me, deserves to die like that. I cry for them.

Did I miss the national press coverage of this? I hadn't heard about this until today. POS child molesters/killers are probably the reason my wife won't let have a gun. They might have an accident before they get to court. Seriously, I have always thought about becoming a police officer but I don't think I would have the discipline, even with the training, to keep my personal feelings in check if I were to deal with a crime that involves a child. My thoughts are with the parents.

Didn't the Vikings of yore have a justice system that turned the offender over to the family of the victim? From what I understand, the family could do as they please, all the way from letting them go to whatever form of death sounded best to them. I know a lot of bleeding hearts out there will say there is no room for state sponsored revenge, but I dissagree. It won't bring these little girls back, but it might give the next pervert pause to consider his own fate if caught.

I am a parent. 'nuff said. I have the same violent feelings described here. But I also know what real maturity looks like, I know that two wrongs don't make a right, and I know what my Savior said. Yours too, probably.

I also have worked with folks who deal with victims, and can verify that few, if any, of these people can be rehabilitated. It is certain that they cannot be permitted to roam freely in society. That's the bottom line, whether you kill them or whether you (insert the argument most powerful to you...Savior, maturity, etc).

I heard about this yesterday. It surely sickens me. But it could have been Fed up older kids too. Regardless I hope they find the scum that did this.

Does anyone recall the 10 yo boy who was abused by his Karate teacher several years ago? They extradited the teacher from another state after he fled.
As two marshalls escorted the scum through the airport the father (wearing a ten gallon hat) turns from a phone booth with his arm extended and holding what looked to be a 44 magnum.

Needless to say after the dad administered his rightful justice he was incarcerated and tried. A jury of his peers let him walk.

Good question. I've often pondered this. My conclusion is that it's a combination of information access and the fact that people typically live in a denser enviroment now. The denser the population the more that degenerative behavior occurs.

This is such a great point. Let's say it was a Puritan settlement in 1626. The guy who did these acts would have been drowned in the lake as a warlock long before he would have had a chance to do a crime like this. I'm not saying drowning every pervert who leers at a little girl is the right thing to do in every case (I know what some of you are thinking) but it sure took care of problems like this before they happened. It's just the way things were, good or bad.

Most likely this guy will be caught. And most likely he will have been caught having done some other perverted act before.

There should be no "time seved" with this type of crime. It is not bank robbery where you serve your ten years and are let out. Any sort of sexual abuse aganist children should be life in prison. Not 5 years, then 10 years the next time. But life, true life where you only get out when you are in a pine box.

My question to more experienced parents is this:

How do you even let the kids out of the house?? My daughter just turned 2, so these issues don't really come up yet. I mean, I know you have to let them gain independence, but how can you even focus on anything while they're gone, while things like this are going on???

If my 8 yo daughter is outside her mother or I are outside with her.

This is too bad. When growing up a typical summer day was leaving the house in the morn, coming home for lunch and then venturing out until dinner time. I can't concieve doing that nowadays. Perhaps time will change my view.....like when she turns 21.
