Canon makes cameras.

Cannons shoot big projectiles.

And that is one bigass cannon!

The gun is called 'Mons Meg' - it was the 14th centry equal to an atomic bomb. I read someplace that it won a battle without firing a single shot - news that the gun was approaching was enough for a surrender.
The castle is visable across the Firth of Forth from my house.

Yeah, and who's got the big guns now?

Pretty cool. Old artillery like that. I wonder if in it's day, if they had/used explosive shells yet?

And I think it had a crew of 2,000, I think. Yeah, it was a serious gun. Too bad air power was simply more effective.

hey rob justice, nice to bump into another countryman ! i'm from falkirk.been here in ontario about 10 years, but still like to go back to my roots ! tres gallus
i'm sure you already know this, but the canon (mons meg} was constructed to lay siege to london. they literally dragged the canon 400 miles, to the outside of the tower of london, and when they went to fire it, it blew apart !!! you can see where it burst open in the pic. as if that was'nt enough, they dragged it all the way back to scotland, to repair it. it never fired again! i cant imagine hauling that amount of iron, up and down hills, and with no roads either.
regards, bob.

Hey bigyagi,

Was in Falkirk a number of years ago, when out to see the "waterwheel" boatlift. Was the middle of Feb, and I have never been so cold in my entire life! Nice place though!
