Tom:
There are a lot of things to do in the San Diego area - too many to list here. Go online to do some research, and you should come up with tons of info & ideas.

Symbolic Motors in La Jolla.
Girls: Pacific Beach
Bars: Everywhere. Depends on what _you_ like
Don't go to Tijuana. Not worth the trip.

TRE is 2 hours up the PCH, not that far away.

Go to Black's beach if you want clothing optional, otherwise PB or La Jolla is just fine. Good shopping and seafood in the harbor. The nightlife in that area is good as well.

San Diego Visit - east meets west

Maybe this thread will help. I was in the same position a few weeks ago...well without my parents.

I can tell you without reservation that San Diego ROCKS!! So much so, I'm moving out there possibly as soon as May 25th. It's that nice. I'm in Boston (newton is a suburb) now, and while Boston is amazing SD has a charm all of its own. Yeah, the weather was absolutely fantastic (for me that was not the great selling point). If you're over 21 (or have a great fake ID) there's tons to do...and when I say tons...I mean girls everywhere. I was pleasantly suprised (hope I spelled that right). It wasn't like there were that many girls who broke the mold, it's just that the median was much higher.

I wasn't into the touristy stuff so I can't help you there. I spent most of my time getting blown out (east coast for drunk - actually Bay Area) with the locals. I felt I could get a better feel for what the place is about that way since I was/am considering/almost have moved there.

So, to summarize: There's plenty to do. I think you'll have a hard time not enjoying it.

Highlights:

La Jolla was pretty sweet. Imagine if the world was given to you from birth - you'd have grown up in La Jolla.
I took a trip to Mexico - Salsapuedes - very pretty.
Gaslamp quarter (after a game at Petco Park. Anna Kournakova threw out the first pitch - how sweet was that!! Yes, she's very hot from the first base line). I found to reminiscent of Boston which I liked.
Pacific Beach - girls, girls.
Ocean beach (I think - I was kinda' sober while I was there - hahahaa) was pretty sweet. Went to a few places on the beach which were cool. Had awesome fish tacos. And I do mean awesome.
I went to a bunch of other places as well but really don't remember since I was pretty much led around by my tour guide/girlfriend.

Best of luck.

Oh, didn't make it to TRE - that's next though!

Plenty of sweet porsches to be seen as well. Many 911's but oddly enough, not that many 914's. I was kind of expecting to see more since the weather preserves almost all of the cars out there(from what I've been led to believe).

Again, hope this helps and I hope you have a good time.

it'll take you more than 2 hours to get from san diego up to TRE via PCH. Hell, you can't make it on the freeway unless its 3am.

Girls are everywhere on the beaches, but realize that June is not a good beach month in SD (or LA for that matter). Cataline Eddy makes his annual appearance, and it is usually overcast at the coast.

I grew up surfing various spots in La Jolla (well, as soon as I could drive there...the parents weren't rich enough to live there). If you're from back east pretty much any beach will work for you though.

Mex food abounds...but don't eat any crappy amerikun mex. Find a corner shack almost anywhere. Get some carne asada. Lather, rinse repeat.

The zoo is cool, as is most of balboa park. Touristy, but mellow and beautiful.

If you guys like it now, you should have seen it in the 60's and 70's before everyone and their uncle moved there

As a native here are my highlights

La Jolla - just walk around downtown and along the coast near La Jolla cove. Have a drink in the Bar at La Valencia Hotel or the deck at Georges at the Cove. Symbolic motors is cool. Visit the Glider port at Torrey Pines to get great views of guys jumping off a 300 foot cliff in their ultralights plus great views of the Pacific and La Jolla.

Pacific Beach - Funky bars and night life at the beach.

Downtown - Petco park is pretty cool. Zoo is close and very good if you like that kind of thing. Also great restaurants and night life in the Gaslamp district.

Point Loma Lighthouse - Drive out to the tip of Point Loma - great view of the City & Bay, Coronado Islands etc.

Check out PCASDR.org for Porsche events. We are pretty active.

Well it was a slow day at work and the SD line caught my eye.

I'll be chasing you at Buttonwillow!
