It's definitely not VW. Maybe DKW? Crazy "Binz size" doors, dashboard, 5-bolt wheels and wheel arches are a dead giveaway. I dunno....u got me Thom!

Two spark plugs?

Has to be two more hidden on the bottom.

Is that a two-stroke?

How is there going to be enough power to move that thing?

It sure looks like a VW van, I'm stumped.

To Google on this is to cheat.

Hey Thom, you did say this test is "open book", right?

Looking like it could be a two stroke, how else would this thing be able to move with an engine that size?

but the many DKW automobiles still in civilian hands were prized due to the 2-stroke engine's ability to burn several types of fuel.

Fuchsticks! Just found this thread and my guess would have been Borgward, would that make me the winner?

kycarguy 935 nailed it, but everyone else missed it, I guess.

It's a 1957 Goliath, basically a rip-off of the VW bus with a two-cylinder engine under the front seat. I don't know if it was two or four stroke, but it looks like a four. They also made panel and kombi versions; the deluxe version is rare. It had wooden floors, and the body behind the cab was aluminum.

The guy was asking $5000 This vehicle has been kicking around the bus community for a while, getting more and more expensive as time goes on, but nobody seems to be willing to step up to the plate to restore it. I think $5k for a rusty, incomplete car for which you will have to make a deal with Satan herself to get parts for, is a bit high.

More pix of this example and others @ http://66.34.72.138/cgi-bin/gallery-search.cgi?string=goliath
