Anyone doing security with a webcam?

That's pretty much it, looking for info on using a PC webcam as a security cam. Seems logical to me.

Yeah, same here. Especially when all that nanny abuse stuff was going on. Is that what you're thinking, or is it for business?

I would think it'd work well, Len, until the DSL line or whatever fails...

Mine is for business, I'm told people are in the office after hours. A little e-mail to home with a still or mpg would be great.

Yeah, it's supposed to work well. Haven't tried it though - no use for it unless our cartoon characters are doing something lascivious after hours...

We've had quite a few janitors fired over the past couple of years for eating food out of our departmental 'fridge.

We use Logitech QuickCam 4000s with the motion-sensor software they ship with on windows systems, same camera with streamer and motion uner Linux with the pwc and pwcx kernel modules. If you do this, be sure to not record audio - that would be illegal. Video is OK.

Get yourself an IP camera. You can get far better image quality, and it has its own IP address that you can access live from anywhere over the web, thereby not compromising your network security. It will run independently of your pc unlike a webcam. You can also get it to send jpg or whatever by email when motion detection is triggered.

See here: http://www.networkipcamera.com/
