Pink Floyd in London

Just saw that PF is officially reuniting (i.e., with Roger Waters) to perform at the Live 8 London show on 2nd July. There have been rumors to this effect for some time (all hotly denied by PF), but apparently Dave Gilmour made the official announcement in the last 24 hours or so.

Hope they enjoy playing together so much that they decide to do a tour. I'm not very optimistic, though, given their prior comments on the subject. I will keep my fingers crossed, though.

Man, I was just looking at airfare. The cheapest is 994 round trip. Too short of notice.

OMG I would love to go.

Just as well, tickets for the show are by lottery and I think it (the lottery) closes tonight.

I would have gladly paid to see Cream recently. And I'll pay when/if Steely Dan tours again. Next time I'm going to road trip to a few shows too...

"Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it's going to be worthwhile," Gilmour said.

Well said.

Pink Floyd is one of the bands that I would still pay money to see. Is anyone going to see The Stones in Chicago?

I'd love to be there but it ain't realistic so I hope somebody tapes it...I have a few of the quasi-official bootlegs from the 70's and they are awesome.

For the London show, I believe you have to send an SMS (i.e. text message) to them and then you are placed in the lottery for a ticket. The still have not announced how tickets will work for the other shows. I may go to the show in Paris, but I had thought about going to the French F1 the same weekend. Decisions!

PF...Artsie Fartsie...what a joke....Ummma Gummma was the last good thing the Floyd did....Floyd became like a soap opera....melodrama in the afternoon...

Does anybody want to see a 62 year old QUEEN prance around the stage...even Charlie was giggling on the last tour....

Anybody wana bet theres gona be a CD of the Albert Hall...Cream show...

I watched the PBS nostalgia 60's rock revisited show...geezus Eric burdon is a fat old man whose voice is SHOT...Believe it or not the Grass Roots guys and Procol Harum guys still had something...the rest geezus was a old folks home where they looked like they had one foot in the grave...it also seemed like there was electronic magic going on...

All these old Bands are just like the Beach Boys cashing in on the oldes..."Paint it Black you devil..Paint it Black...."

Heard those tickets were going for $3K a seat on the street as the show(s) were sold out right away! the Stones are here in Oct. and though I have seen them on every tour since 69, I'm sitting this one out. $400.00 a seat for the floor??? Sorry Kieth.

You gotta be kiddin' tabby. Are you suggesting that Dark Side of the Moon is a worthless album? Ummmm, the rest of the world fairly unanimously disagrees. PF is the one band I need to see, and have not. Yeah, those old rockers are pathetic walking fossils now, but most folks still recognize that they outnumber the young punks that are doing decent music today. My kids (ages 20 and 13) have always favored bands like Beatles, Led, PF and others more than the contemporary bands. Gosh, I wonder why.......

Is Roy Harper still around?

Now I've got "Have a Cigar" in my head...interrupted occasionally by "Careful With That Ax, Eugene".

Touring for them is a big deal. IIRC, it took them a team of 70 semis to haul all of their equipment last time around. They had to have two of everything: it took them so long to set up and break down they had to have a second team setting up for the next show while the current show was going on.

Even if they toured "stripped down" and focused on the music, it would be a phenomenal show.

Meddle has always been my personal favorite...

This would indeed be an incredible show. It's nice to see that Waters has worked out a lot of his issues and is in a better place.

Is Syd still alive? Last I heard, he was blissfully unaware that he was ever in a band.

Thanks for that link. An iteresting read. Like I said...Syd will never know. Glad to hear he is "somewhat" better.
On a similar note, last I heard, Peter Green ( Mac), was like digging graves or is a care taker at a cemetary in London. Anybody have any updates?

well, we've got two guitarists now. Who makes up the rest of the "all crazy" band?

Well, he seems a little busier than Syd;

I hear Sly Stone is available for vocals. We could always get Phil Spector to produce....
