I get invited to golf outings with customers. I used to go to network and talk business. I suck at golf and have tried to improve but I just don't have the passion for it. I now send my employees who LIKE to golf and throw in some gifts. We try to sponser a hole for the bigger clients. The last outing my guys went to they took second place and won 250.00!

From an avid golfer, this thread hurts. And by the way I'm in a tournament tomorrow so I'll be sure to take some pictures and post them for you guys!! LOL.

Obviously not a strenous activity (unless one walks the course briskly), but certainly a sport. From dictionary.com:

1. a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.
1. b. A particular form of this activity.
2. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively.
3. An active pastime; recreation.

Golf ain't for everyone, but spending 5 hours outdoors in a beautiful setting works for me. Hitting a little white ball 250 yards down a fairway is satisfying. Watching a little white ball fly up and out 170 yards and land on the green 4 feet from the pin has its charms. As does tapping in a 30' putt with a nice break in it. Yeah, golf sucks...

Steve touched on it.

It relates to why I like launching lead at paper targets 100+ yards away, trying to get the smallest group possible.

Accuracy.

Putting a small ball into a hole hundreds of yards away, and lobbing lead at a target hundreds of yards away relate to man's almost innate fascination with affecting things that are beyond our physical reach.

We particularly like to make games out of it.

What kills me about golf is the amount of time & money it takes. I drive by the golf courses and see loads of people and I can't help but wonder how they can justify so much personal time away from their spouses/kids. Sure a 3-5 hour game each week is fine, but how many golfers really play one game a week? And then there's the driving range. Seriously I know guys who play 2 games on the work week and then all day Saturday and also visit the driving range.

Oh and Todd might be right, I've played golf 3 times (not including the miniture variety) and hated every moment of it. I suck at golf but also have zero interest in trying to improve.

How can you hate golf? My favorite holes are the ones with dinosaurs. The windmills always kick my butt.

I really like golf. I don't have the time to dedicate to it though so I suck badly. And, yes, it's something I should be doing for work (I'm in medical sales) but I have other hobbies that are just as enjoyable. A few of my big customers do golf regularly but some are into cycling or into sports cars. There's always something to build a realtionship around besides golf.

Lol. Not in my industry. Food yes, strippers and alcohol no. Most of my customers are women.
