Ford GT.... Even though it says Ford, I like it.
Bigdog Motorcycles had their corporate headquarters annual open house this past weekend in Wichita KS, so we had to attend given the lack of anything else to do in Wichita.
The local Ford Dealership had to show off their buying power by bringing a new Ford GT to the motorcycle show. I must say, I'm a fan of the original GT40 and the GT itself is definately an awesome looking car up close and personal. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm sure Chrysler's manhood was stomped on just a little bit buy this showing, as the only thing they were able to muster up for the show was a new Hemi Charger. But I have to admit, it isn't a bad looking 'grocery go-getter'. Here's just one of many bikes on display. ![]()

I saw one on highway 50 in Placerville yesterday, heading east. I couldn't believe it, given the low volume. It was a great looking car.
I read they are having some very serious issues with the engines, though - bearings and cranks being recalled.

The original GT40 is one of the most beautiful cars ever. The modern interpretation is not exactly the same, but has stayed true enough to the original so that it is very nearly as nice, and a phenomenal performer too. The Ford GT is high on my short list of cool modern cars.

Something that jumped right out at me when I originally looked at it, check out the radio... Modern day interpretation of a classic from that era.

Saw one stuck in traffic that was trying to get into the racetrack for some NASTYCAR race.
Probably the only time I'll ever pass one that's headed in the same direction as I am!

Pure eye candy to me...much better, aesthetically speaking, than the Porsche GT. Performance? Once you reach these levels, does it really matter who can pee highest up the performance envelope lamp post?

Well SoCal911SC anyone who still likes this car after reading the countless press reports about defective suspensions and engines must be a little, umm, light in the head.

I saw one in Malibu Canyon a few days ago and my heart skipped a couple of beats...it is very cool IMO and I applaud Ford for taking a brief break from Explorers and Taurus's and building a car like that.

The GT has a nice resemblance to the real thing. This also shows Ford's conservatism. This is not really car design; it's retro copy and technology balanced by nice execution, and for a change, hands off from the Board of Director's wives.
Ford does retro T-Bird, now retro GT-40. However, forward thinking car companies look forward, not to the past. I think the bureaucrats should just let their designers do their thing instead of fearing Mom and Pop in Kansas won't buy another car that doesn't have the limo look and feel. If they sold more cars (GM specifically), then maybe they won't complain about paying health benefits to their employees. MHO, Sherwood |

I haven't seen any reliability problems reported, as I have with the Carrera GT. The engine is the same basic unit as was in the Mustang Cobra or the Lightning truck. And that unit was bulletproof. The only failure I heard of was in a Cobra where the blower had been replaced with a higher output unit & the car was raced to death, running 9 second quarter miles. The bottom end eventually gave up. After re-installing the original blower Ford cheerfully installed a new bullet.

Great placement on the P-brake. Awsome OH-***** handle for the passenger though.

Like I said, bulletproof. Leaking seal is not a "serious engine issue."

I saw a new red Ford GT parked by the side of the highway last week with a busty blonde standing next to the passenger side. Don't know what her story was, though, because she was on the east side of a freeway and I was heading west. Don't know if she was the driver or passenger. I figured that if it wasn't her car, then perhaps the driver bought it so he could take busty blondes for rides.
![]() Not 2 minutes later, also heading eastbound, I saw a yellow Murcielago. Sometimes my luck just ain't right...

Jack, you're in Wichita too? I would have gone to the Big Dog rally if I had known there would be a GT there, I'm not big into bikes. You think Wichita is bad, I moved from Great Bend (shudder). What color is your 944? Ever seen a silver 951 with C2s around town?
For Ford, the GT is an accomplishment, if nothing else it's a great halo car. Personally, I like it. What bothered me about the various issues was that under warranty, essentially all Ford did was slap a band aid on it. For over 100k, you'd hope they'd at least kiss a little ass. Whatever article I read (can't remember) quoted an engineer saying that the car was rushed to market, and some of the components didn't recieve proper testing, as well as problems with subcontractor quality.
