The rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

We looked at them when shopping an X5 a few months ago. They were, in short, way too expensive. The base versions lack most equipment that other SUVs in that group have as standard and the options are hideously overpriced. When optioned to match the diesel x5 we bought the car was well into the eighties. For that much we could have bought a loaded x6 with an M-Sport package and 440 hp.

Add an arrogant dealer who thought the things were made of unobtainium and we were outta there.

Can I just reconfirm also that they are ugly, no matter how they try to tinker with the body. Anyone that likes them must be wearing porsche colored glasses. The X6 is a close second also!

They aren't selling hundreds of thousands of the things because they are crap.

I mean, I agree about the 'look' - esp the new ones with the stupid boy-racer/BMW angry scowl. (stupid) BUT, when I was looking for an all-weather comfortable car I passed by the X5's and was looking at the Touareg and Cayenne. I preferred the plain exterior design of the T-reg, but awk on the interior. ...the Cayenne interior design is (was) so clean.

...and then there is the performance. Damn, those peppers perform well in all kinds of nasty environments. Or, long road trip? Arrive refreshed.

Porsche has a habit of using left over stuff from WW2...they found a bunch of Brown paint in a shed out back of the factoryin the 60's, which they called Sepia Brown.

Hmm the Allies after WW2 were looking for that stash of Nazi V2 Hydrazine...well now we know where it went...
