Appropriate punishment
 

Not that I advocate it, but I was thinking about what kind of punishment would be appropriate for terrorists who kill innocent people, either personally or by proxy (planning and supplying).

Given that at this time, so many are members of radical Islam, and given that they apparently do not fear dying (they are to be rewarded with 72 virgins (or is it Virginians?)), what would make them fear death?

Like I said, I don't necessarily advocate this, but wouldn't this be interesting:

All terrorists found guilty of murder either by personally executing or by planning and abetting should be considered involuntary organ donors. As such, they would be, in part, paying society by making it possible for others to live. The remains of the donor could then be made into animal feed.

Just some bizarre thoughts following events in the world over the past few years.

Ever been to a hog farm in 100 degree heat and 100% humidity? Mmmmm, the aroma! The stench gets into your pores after just a few minutes and stays with you, every time you break a sweat for the next several days, even after leaving the farm, you stink like pig***** as the funk oozes out of your skin. It's the most repugnant experience I've ever had in my life (I had to spend the morning on a hog farm for work once...don't ask).

Muslims hate and revile all things porcine.

I suggest forced hog farm labor for convicted terrorists.

Maybe I watched too many movies, but I wouldn't want to take a chance on passing along the evil that infest them.

Some of you may remember the story of the terrorists a long time ago in Lebanon (or somewhere close). They made the mistake of killing a russian government worker. The russians figured out who the killer was. One day the killer's father showed up on his doorstep dead with his testicles in his mouth. No russians were killed after that.
This isn't a good thing to say, but maybe a bombing of identified terrorists' familys' houses' might make an impression.

I think the organ donor thing would fall under the heading of "cruel and unusual" blah blah blah. Though all of us have seen the American justice system fail from time to time, I still think it capable of dispensing proper punishments. I don't buy into the "9-11 changes everything" to the extreme that some do, by advocating mutilation and such.

Under American justice, of course, the poor terrorist will be punished, and the rich one will go free.

I'd like to pose another question. What punishment would fit the crime, if it even is a crime, of profiting from acts of terrorism? How would you feel about someone who even entertains the thought of doing so?

I wasn't thinking so much about the "mutilation", as I was this: If a criminal is executed by gas, injection or electrocution, nothing in the body is salvagable. If the person is properly anesthesized, there would be no pain for the convicted, and the results of donating organs might save others doomed to an early death. I would posit that the good would far outweigh the bad. And, from a psychological standpoint, what would a radical believer think if he knew that "infidels" were receiving his body parts?

Actually, I think convicted criminals sentenced to death should be given the option of becoming donors as a way of partial compensation for the lives they took.

You asked what punishment would be appropriate given they do not fear death.

You must consider that these extremist monkeys don't know mercy - how can you when you are prepared to be killed for your beliefs?

They need to be weeded out, rounded up and sanitised the old fashioned way. Maybe turned in to "skilled iron workers" for a couple of months untill starvation settles in - then out via the big chimney.

Pretending to fight terrorism by committing troops to a permanent political basket case is going to get us all nowhere.

Anesthesia=no pain for the convicted/condemned. True. But sort of takes the sting out of the whole punishment aspect. I don't know the circumstances of my own death as yet, but of all the possibilities, passing away while unconscious sounds pretty good.

The good outweighs the bad. Maybe. Ethical behavior? I have doubts.

Rather than concentrating on the punishment, which will really never act as a deterrent, no matter what is done to the bodies, maybe we should fight terrorism with good 'ole American capitalism.

We've heard the stories of Saddam and others promising large cash payoffs to the families of those willing to strap on a bomb and go sightseeing. What a waste to have all those livers and kidneys blasted to oblivion when American entrepreneurs could offer a far higher cash payoff, with the end result (dead terrorists) being the same. Don't you think it a good idea to adopt the view of the middle east as one vast field of organs ready to be harvested?

In my view, it is unfortunate that by the time the war on terroism is won, we will have long since developed the ways to grow new organs in pickle jars.

It has always been a problem to me that the human race is the only species that tolerates the existence of individuals "outside the norm" among its ranks. Not advocating any radical action, but why keep serial murderers alive at the expense of the citizens? Why keep prisons chock full of sociopaths alive when they contribute nothing to society?

Just a question that, to me, defies all logic, even considering "moral" and "ethical" aspects.

Same implied question. How far do you go? If everybody can get replacement parts (beacuse the organs are there), will speeding warrant the death/organ donation penalty?
