A Shot of the Kids (and recent goings on)

There was what I will loosely call a "car show" this past Saturday which I attended with 3 of the kids:

My cars represented a significant fraction of the cars in attendance, and the "organizers" of the event had 50 trophies to give out. So, if I'd decided to remain until the end of the "show," slowly roasting on tarmac in 96 degree heat, I would have more ornamental crap cluttering up the house.

Anyhoo, of late I've been checking in on you guys once a week or so. I'm not on the 'puter so much any more, as I quit my job on Long Island and moved back upstate about 6 weeks ago. So when the weather's nice, I'm on the lake or on the Aprilia, or hitching a ride w/ a buddy who's a Lear pilot to wherever he's going that day. Visited Bell and his lovely girl near Warren, PA and "we" put in the Narva lightbulbs and uprated wiring/sockets. Suffice to say, even the 930 cannot out-drive these light cannons.

Though the former employer has asked me to do per diem work for them (at a healthy hourly rate), I'll have to get a real job again sometime in the near future, at which point I'll likely be behind a desk and able to more frequently throw my $.02 into this "addapennytakeapenny" venue.

But before I get back into an office somewhere, I'm leaving tomorrow to drive to Arizona to deliver my cousin's car to her -- Fort Goddamnitshot or something, near Nogales.

En route, I'm stopping in Loretto, KY. Home of the finest bourbon in the world. And I'm meeting Mr. Bill Samuels, Jr., President of Maker's Mark, who has offered to take me to lunch. Hmmm.... wonder if Maker's Mark needs a General Counsel/Taste Tester...

I haven't attempted to find Pelicans along the route to meet up with, not because I don't want to meet folk, but b/c I'm travelling with my uncle so (1) therefore the route will change on an hourly basis and (2) we're on his timetable, so it's unlikely I'd be able to commit to a specific time/place.... much less add in detours and dinners and stuff. I got to pick my one Waypoint ... and I made the most of it ... the rest is at his whim.

And here's a gratuitous shot of Ron Madaio (and Brian Bell) at Hershey earlier this year, just for fun. Well, it amuses the Hell out of me, anyway:

I seem to remember an Overpaid Slacker from many moons ago...but I heard he went crazy and fell into a vat of Maker's Mark...never to be heard from again.

had lunch with JP and his uncle today as they were passing through ohio, took them for some 3/4lb burgers and such.
they were going to hit the pro-football hall of fame in canton, then they were on to KY.

Stop by for a sail if you get to SoCal. Am in Italy at the moment, funny, is easier getting in here when I am on the road, time at home has gotten so valuable and rare.

Hey guys. Got back yesterday. My end-point was Phoenix, NV. It was 118 F when I pulled into town. Eeeeyikes. No thank you. The high desert was nice; got to see a high school buddy in Gallup, NM that I hadn't seen in a decade. He's actually good friends with a fellow Pelican -- the publisher of 9 Magazine. The timetable was too fluid and hectic to get to arrange any meetings, but it's so damned easy to drive around the country that I'll have to do it again.

At this point, the only 3 contiguous states I haven't been in are Washington, Oregon and Arkansas. And I've no interest in Arkansas. I tried to talk my like-minded uncle into driving down to the Missouri/Arkansas border and standing in Missouri while peeing on Arkansas. Holiday traffic near/around Branson made it inconvenient, however.

I'll try to post some pix and trip stories tomorrow before I take off for the weekend. Jackie and I are going to visit Brian Bell at his parents' camp near Warren PA.

Thanks for the interest in the 2002! If I could only keep one toy, that'd be the one. I'll take more pix of it next time it sees daylight and post 'em.

ok... thus all cleared for take off.

I have to leave tonight for at least an 8hr ride. Will confirm w/ bell or JP Fri before 9pm that I'm out there. The nearby forest, the backyard with the dogs, or whatever happens, I don't give a ----. Hopefully see you guys Sat..

Sweet! It'll be great to see Ron and finally hear the story of this mysterious broken rib.

BTW, my 3 cars won 5 trophies at the car show -- including best paint job for the 2002. They won them in absentia, as I got sick of hanging out on tarmac in 96 degree/98 percent humidity and left before the awards were handed out. I bumped into a buddy last night who stuck it out at the car show and told me the event organizer has got a bunch of trophies for me. Great. More clutter.

Hy-17 / I-86 in NY was routine w/HP traps/ Sun nite/ mad dash.. meaning the whole road is a speed trap. W of Binghamton had some very decent limit + 10-15 and a few solo cars doing +20.
