The GTVs were great cars. Beautiful, fast, and nimble. I believe they were among Porsche's major racing competitors (smaller displacement 911s) in the late sixties and early seventies. And they did so with a solid rear transaxle. Eventually I'll switch classes from Spec Miata to Vintage, once I get a hold of one of these. The main website is www.alfabb.com.

I absolutely love 105s. If I had to choose between a 911ST and Guilia Sprint GTA I would be in a world of trouble.

Actually they have a fully independent rear axle. They are one of my favorite cars, I came so close to owning a '69, then a '65, (Guilia GT), before I got my last 911. They are equal in desirability to a 911 for me, (both at the very top), and even edge the Porsche out in exclusivity. Also, Alfa people are way cool.

Maybe I have my suspension terminology wrong. The GTAm racers like these:

used a "sliding block" rear end like this:

I love the 105 series alfas dearly. If development had continued like it did with the 911 they's still be competing.

I've always found them very similar to a 911 in that they are precise and chuckable, just that all the weight is at the front instead of the back which changes the pendulum effect. Great cars with a big heart and a lot of soul, like a 911 they feel alive.

The last incarnation the 2000 GTV had lsd, the rest had a live axle - is that like a fully independent rear axle?

I love those old alfas.. But rust repair keeps me away.
Everytime I get an inkling to buy one, I go up to alfabb and look at the picture room. Usually somewhere on page one there's some poor SOB doing an entire panel replacement due to cancer.

But thanks for bringing it up!
BTW, there's a guy in my neighborhood with an old gta/gtv.. I see him hammering on it (driving, not real hammers) every few days... He has a union jack paint on the roof.. UNION JACK?? WHAT THE HELL? It's not a damn cooper. One of these days I'll wind up talking to him.

My buddy has two. A 1974 and 1971. The '71 is shown here. The red 71 is an awesome car. Very clean and no rust.

Those Alfas and the Lancia Fulvia are the main Italian cars that drive into my dreams - that I could potentially actually own, anyway.

Those new Alfas, (that they don't sell here but I saw them in Europe), are beautiful. Made me want to move there just so I could have a new AR sport wagon TDI.

Thats what the pic above is, TDI AWD wagon. Had it cruising at 220kmh on the autostadas, plenty of mumbo. Handled really well for a high set AWD. Was rather good fun through miles and miles of perfect, snaking Umbrian backroads. Had had rather good brakes, although Mr Hertz may not have been pleased with their condition on return....
