Let's mollycoddle Sexual Predators

I'm having a real hard time swallowing this one. What's your view?

That's terrible! We should release them back into the community rather than "mollycoddle" them.

We need to find an island 300 miles off of the coast, parachute them there overhead. Promote sharks offshore and mine the waters around it. Populate the island with deadly animals of all sorts. Let them enjoy their stay...

Plan B would be to take a .45 auto and gut shoot them but truthfully that would be too fast IMHO.

"The hospital's goal is to prepare offenders for eventual release by reducing the risk that they will commit new crimes."

Same old crap. When they release the offenders, they should live with the parole board members family. The State has no accountability, no liability and no common sense.

Jon they're already in your community. I think my point here is, it's supposed to be a prison,,,not happy time for perverts.

Joe, how dare you.....plan B is so harsh.

Do a search of registered sex offenders in your area, would you rather have them locked up reciving treatment OR living next to you. Locked up is our best solution right now, because, unless somebody dies, I don't see the death penalty being legal for offenders at this point. Sex offenders have uncontrollable impulses to offend, and this drive can be controlled through several medications that can be monitored in a treatment facillity. Most are NOT treatable and will offend again. I see this as a good solution until the laws get tougher.

They serve their time in prison, and get released. That's a given. No firing squads to be found, despite the usual rantings.

Personally, I'd rather they get released to a secure hospital where they can be a) confined and b) evaluated and treated by professionals, than get released into my neighborhood. Will they offend again? Maybe. Do the laws provide for lifetime incarceration? No.

You want to change the laws, better get to work. But for a solution that might help now, this doesn't sound half bad.

They shouldn't be receiving treatment, they shouldn't be out in public, they should be dead, or handless and penisless.

The laws have been changed. Over and over and over again. And for the better IMO. Regardless, I stand pat. These criminals are no different than people who rob and steal and assault. They have proven they can not follow the program on the outside of the walls, so they go inside. Why does this 'Special Class' of criminal deserve the nicer, prettier, more calming environment? They don't. And now,,,,because I owe you one,,,,,,,,,

I think you mis-read the article (or maybe I did).

They still serve their full sentence in prison as they would without the hospitals. This is not a substitute for prison, it's additional incarceration after prison.

Not hospital vs prison. Hospital vs the house next door.

Jon,,,We're both right,,,or wrong. This is a multi millions of dollar prison that has been built soley for sexually violent predators. No other types allowed. They will serve their sentence here instead of Protected Custody at Folsom, San Quenton, Attascadero, etc. They will still be released from here when they're time is served. Even if they tell the Warden they can't wait to get their hands on little boys and girls, they will still be released back into mainstream America. But this is another story. My only problem with this article is the 'Special Needs' approach. We have 37 prisons, we didn't need to build one for predators.

I can't imagine the cost of medical staff, shrinks, psychs, techs, RN's, LVN's, etc., at just this one prison. Think of all the engine rebuilds we could finance!!!

having just put one of these a## h###s away for a very long time. ( the rapest of my daughter) I think I have the right to say Give them all the John Bobbit treatment. Or we can do the escape from N.Y. thing and let them all fondle and cornhole themselves into oblivion. People who violate others in this manner have no right to live(again my opinion). The survivors of the attacs should be able to determine the penaltys with no government interferance.
I don't sound too biased do I?

If they can't be executed, then castration should very seriously be considered...

When I was a cop, these "people'' were easily the most difficut to deal with from a variety of aspects. The hardest thing was covering my own arse when I dealt a little "summary justice" or allowed family members some one-on-one time.

Funny isn't it? We euthanaise sick animals, yet insist on saving human parasites.

I've thought long and hard on this one.......

"Uh he said long and hard...huh huh huh huh huh....."

Anyway,

We need to actually decriminalize the behavior, and make set it as a form of insanity.

Why?

We can only lock up an offender of a crime for a predetermined time. Some one who is insane is hospitalized for the rest of thier life, or until they become sane, which for most of these people is never.

So, let them out after time served, or "hospitalize" them until they are safe/dead?
