Help! Are you/your son(s) circumcised?

OK the short story:

I am Jewish. Circumcision is not an "option". It is a requirement.

My wife is Japanese. She has three younger brothers, none of whom are circumcised. Neither is her father.

She thinks it's barbaric and horrible for the child.

I think it's necessary, will reduce risk of various problems/complications in the future, and will keep my son from thinking he's a freak the first time he sees me sans pants.

Where do you stand? What have you done?

PS: Ultrasound show it's going to be a boy, in no uncertain terms.

PPS: If you are not in the USA, don't bother to vote or reply.

Congratulations again... What happened? Did your wife have a change of heart?

To snip or not to snip. A friend of mine's wife thought it was barbaric too. She convinced him there was no need. At 3.5 years old my friend's son kept having reoccuring infections. So, instead of getting snipped as a baby my friend's son had it done before he turned 4. Which was more barbaric?

I know you've been preggers for a while, but have you listened to "Arms Wide Open" lately? It might sound a little different now.

one of my son's was circumcised with a plastibell, it was a lot less painful and if I remember correctly, (its been awhile) it was a plastic ring slipped under the foreskin and a plastic ring that fit over the foreskin on top of the other ring, the foreskin fell off a week later and didn't seem to bother him much. It cut off the circulation to the foreskin and it fell off. My other son had a surgical curcumcision and it seemed to bother him a little. Discuss all options with your obgyn. You are in a tough spot.

Careful. Definite possibility of permanent psychological harm. I was cut and turned out Republican.

Hygeine reasons are really a thing of the past... It's really about fitting in these days. Locker room stares and all that...

My wife was also pretty freaked out about it, but snipping is still a family affair. :)

Coincidence?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1122013038.jpg

The top two threads are:

1. About China severing ties...

2. About a son/father being circumcized.

Coincidence? Does anyone else find this to be funny?

Or are you just saying, "It's after 2am, GO TO SLEEP Z-MAN!"

Isn't circumcision a Jewish/Christian/Muslim tradition? Not sure if it is widely practiced outside of these 3 religions.

My hypothesis is that because these 3 religions originated in an part of the world where water is scarce, it made sense for hygene issues to remove the foreskin. But today in the US, it makes more sense to just take showers regularly :)

My older brother was NOT circumcised.

Finally admitted to my stepdad why he has issues trying to meet women and why he cut gym in high school.

Chris hit it right on the head, locker room. My brother witnessed another kid being harassed because he was not circumcised.

My brother has also been rejected by a couple of girls because of it.

Left a huge psychological impact on him.

So he finally had it done at age 43, you think it's uncomfortable for a new born? He was laid up for 2 weeks.

Do it in the hospital, don't do a bris, that to me is a bit on the barbaric side.

Can't wait for the Rguppe guys to post on this. "yeah mine is chopped and has a wing"

Jeff Higgins 07-22-2005 04:49 AM

Your wife doesn't have to spend the rest of her life with it; your kid does. For all of the reasons already mentioned, just do it.

Think of it as adding lightness...

I was circumcized as a newborn. It was awful. I couldn't walk for a year.

Tishabet 07-22-2005 05:45 AM

Get it cut! Chicks dig it!

Heh heh, good one.

I had an argument with my wife over this when she was pregnant. Except she was for and I was against doing it. If the kid wants to have it done then he can elect to do it when he's old enough. I kind of view it as a form of mutilation (maybe that's too strong a term).

Anyway, we had a daughter so the question of circumcision didn't come up (Unlike in other countries).

Just had a baby boy, so I had to make the decision, too.

One thing to consider--all circumcision is not the same. If you specify a less high and tight circumcision (that's the term, apparently), you get all the benefits with none of the drawbacks.

Here's a reference site, if you don't mind looking at a lot of... well, you know.

i don't have mine, it was gone when i woke up. my folks did have the forethought to save it for me. its now in a mayonnaise jar full of formaldehyde on my mantle. funny thing is it looks like it would still fit.

i used to yell at my mom for have me disfigured, but i got used to it after a while. i would scream at her "you had no right!"

This link is not work safe but will give you insight with the circumsized vs. non issue. The members signatures and avatars contain nudity.

What I learned:
Girls like it nice and clean.
Guy that are not circumsized have premature ejaculation issues. The plus is great orgasms the minus is not holding out long enough to take care of her.

The link is a interesting read with womens input and input from guys who are not snipped having issues.

I worked with a woman that gave me hell for getting my son snipped. Her 8 y/o was not. She was constantly at the doctors with him with infections and irritations and rashes.

Both my boys are snipped.

targa911S 07-22-2005 06:59 AM

I saved my foreskin. I had it made into a wallet. If you rub it enough though it doubles as a breif case.

island911 07-22-2005 07:02 AM

Good site, Jon.

Well, Blue; it looks as if the circumcision will depend on where in the world you expect your kid to live.

I mean, for the "right look" to be pulled-off (so to speak) it will really depend on the climate. If he's in low-swinging Florida, none is needed . . .but if he moves north to Canada, yikes . .. the potential "turtle-factor" --w/o drastic Sx his shlong would look ALL-WRONG in the locker-room.

I'm with Rick on this one. (mutilation, at worst . . .cosmetic Sx at best)

You can argue that the tradition must have some merit . . .but I assure you, the tradition of leaving it uncut goes back even further.

Was not "cut" at birth. At the ripe old age of 22 and with a model for a wife we "went at it one weekend" (remember that this was the '70 and "sex, drugs and rock and roll" dominated) as well as the wife scored some 7/14 ludes so we partied all weekend.

Monday morning rolls around and my unit hurt a bit. Course he had been at it for most of the weekend keeping the wife happy. Tuesday rolls around and it hurts worse so I go to the doctor.

He says "skin it so I can look" and after a few seconds finds the problem. Said "we can take care of this very easy" so I tell him to do it. "Not here, going to take an operation" he says, and it will be in the hospital. I was going to be circumcised at age 22...

You guys do not know pain until you have had Mr. Johnson cut on, then stitched up. When he tries to rear his ugly head it was not good. My wife came in the hospital room to visit afterwards. She was 5'11," very good looking and wearing a skirt that would show all her assets if she even slightly bent over, and he tried to "raise to the occasion" so to speak. Told her to never return unless she was in a nun's uniform and with no makeup etc.

It took months before Mr. Johnson was able to preform again and years before the scars looked even close to normal. As well having lived all my life to that point "uncut" and now the head was out in the open all the time, sensative is a good word for it. A female of any flavour went by and I got wood... took years for it to feel normal again.

Would I do it to a child? Still feel that this operation is not needed in 99% of the cases and with proper hygene the cancer issue is a moot point. If its done due to religious reasons then fine otherwise feel its a outdated procedure IMHO. Never had any health issues with it, before nor afterwards. If you wash (or have it washed :) ) daily its not an issue...
