As I was waiting to de-plane yesterday from a flight, I saw the pilot get off with his grip (bag). On the side was a sticker that said "God is my Co-Pilot" which I thought was kinda flattering to the guy in the next seat or scary if in fact it was true.

Better than the dyslexic version:

if it was God in the second seat, you would have heard an angelic harmony, and seen a really bright light, when the door to the pilot's cabin opened. if not, the pilot was probably being sarcastic. was the pilot's hair really really white? that would have been another good clue.

I think if I were flying a plane and had a deity sharing the controls, I'd let the deity take over. Not so sure about the dog.

I don't think the (human) co-pilot actually saw the sticker. I pointed it out and he laughed.

if I was a pilot, I'd stick a bumper sticker on the back of the plane... It'd be damn funny. Not like anyone's going to see it in the air, but as the planes line up to take off some other pilot would get a chuckle out of it...

He must have been a folllower of the Church of energy management.

I had luch with a United Pilot last week - gave him a LubeMaster sticker for his grip. Went great with the Harley and Hooters one he had on his grip! I'm sure it will be a hit with the F/A's.

I think that is cool. I certaintly wouldn't mind having God as my co-pilot if I was a pilot. It is probably like flying with auto-pilot on and not a worry in the world or in the air for that matter.

I think in the presence of the Allmighty himself, I would slide over and let him take the pilots seat. God does not like to be second fiddle.

"God Is My Co-Pilot" is one of my all-time favourite books that was made into a movie in 1945.
Plot goes something like this (thanks to IMDB): Robert L. Scott has dreamed his whole life of being a fighter pilot, but when war comes he finds himself flying transport planes over The Hump into China. In China, he persuades General Chennault to let him fly with the famed Flying Tigers, the heroic band of airmen who'd been fighting the Japanese long before Pearl Harbor. Scott gets his chance to fight, ultimately engaging in combat with the deadly Japanese pilot known as Tokyo Joe. |

Some 50's rocker was known for having it on his car; Elvis or Jerry Lee Lewis come to mind, but I'm not sure.

Compared to some of the FO's I've had in the 36 years I've been doing this, a dog would have been more help.
Most pilot's grips (case / bag) are covered with whatever was free at the last layover. And sometimes it's a sticker, haha.

Which airline was it that seperated on their rosters pilots who professed to be Christians? This way, in the event of the forthcoming and imminent Rapture, when the Faithful are taken up with the Almighty, one pilot would be left aboard the aircraft to land the rest of the hellbound passengers and presumably save the lives of anyone unfortunate enough to be in the path of the pilotess craft as is plummeted to the ground. Simply prudent risk management.
Gosh its food for thought....I'm mean how many aircraft are aloft at any point of time?

Whenever things get "interesting" in the cockpit, if you had the choice of someone who had a "close personal relationship" with God or someone who did not, which one would you choose?
Been flying for 34 years now and most pilots ask for His help before every flight. Its difficult enough without a bit of help when things get difficult. JoeA

As a student pilot I once made the profound error of taking off IFR with "30% chance of thunderstorms" in the forecast.
About 30 minutes out of MDW, over Lake Michigan, the lightning began. I lowered the plexiglass sun visors, turned the instrument lights up full bright, tuned the ADF to an off-station and flipped on the pitot heat. After my first diversion to the north the cabin began to get uncomfortably warm. After requesting a block of altitudes between 7000 and 5000, a full sweat broke out. Put your trust in Lycoming and your faith in our creator. There are NO Atheists in foxholes, nor was much agnosticism present in the cockpit of that Cherokee 180 that day. Another maxim: "It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than in the air wishing you were on the ground."
