Anyone here know of a reputable Dark colored Golden retriever breeder?

As the pain subsides from the passing of my buddy, Miles, I will soon be searching for another Golden Retriever.
I figured I'd post here cause you never know.
Actually a friend offered me a beautiful male pup recently but I passed as I want a Red/Copper colored retriever as opposed to a blonde.
The darker retrievers are typically found in the south and are bred for field work whereas the blondes are bred more for show.

Any leads appreciated.

My buddy, Miles:

I love Coppers

Why do you need a dark colored breeder?

Burnin: I prefer the dark color and the physical characteristics that typically follow that "specialty". Darker examples a not nearly as common up here.

Mikester: Miles was 2 years old when my daughter was born. He couldn't have been cooler.

BTW, I'm also checking pounds and rescue programs as well.

My brother and I gave our parents a dark Golden female. Her litter name was "Jesus" (hey-soos), and she was named Kelly. Awesome breed, a personal favorite.

As cool as it is to rescue a dog, the price of a top-bred dog will come back to you in the long haul with reduced health problems and better intelligence and disposition, IMHO. Call some local Golden clubs and you'll find some breeders get recommended frequently.

Are you set on Goldens?

My bro got a black lab from a breeder near our retreat in Vermont.

his black lab is the best dog I have ever seen

Incredibly well trained. has papers on its ancestors going back generations..

One whistle right, two whistle left...GREAT with kids

I love Golden myself, but this Black Lab has made a serious impression on me

Here's Dusty. He is a fantastic dog. My boys were about 11/13 years old when we got him. Dusty just turned 8.

Great dogs! Foxfire farms in Petaluma, CA seems to have a good reputation. Their dogs are darker than average, but I don't think as red as the first couple of photos in this post.

Good looking dog, I am sorry for your loss.

You may want consider looking here:
http://www.grrinj.org/

or here

http://www.shorehearts.org/adotables.htm

The second link has a good looking 2 year old red neutered male that needs new people. Also, keep in mind that many groups don't put all the dogs on their web pages, so it is probably worth giving them a call.

Last month we lost our girl Cami to cancer, at the age of 8. She had Foxfire lines, her dad was Cody (Am/Can Champion Foxfire's Jazzman), who was in a bunch of Print ads and TV comercials. (Shell, Mervyn's, Eukanuba, B. of A.)

This was Cami:

It was a freak thing, she has no history of cancer in her lines. Life ain't fair some times.

My wife and I have volunteered for Goldern Rescue for the past 7 years or so, you would be suprised at how many dogs go into rescue that are well bred. That being said, some breeders require a contract that if for any reason you can't keep the dog, it goes back to the breeder. If you are really considering a rescue dog, contact some of your local breeders, you may get lucky.

Good luck with your search.

Tom

I put down two dogs in one year, I definitely feel your pain. My buddy just got a rescue Golden,,,hell of a dog. The rescue program is great. Mine, gizmo, is half Golden and half Black Lab. I couldn't ask for a better personality and friend. Good luck in your hunt.

I lost my old buddy Scout last summer to a stroke. He came out of the Woodcreek kennel here locally. His sire was Maverick, aka Woodcreek's Top Gun. I don't have any digital photos to post of Scout, but here is his old man, Maverick. Still alive and kicking at 14. I just picked up one of Maverick's grand daughters, one of Scout's nieces. Great dogs, great lines, but probably too far away for you.

Thanks for all the info guys. Nice pics and my condolences for your losses as well.

Jeff, thanks for the info...and while I'm willing to travel WA may be a bit far.

My wife is looking into a Seeing Eye Institute dog. The ones that don't make it through the entire program are adopted out. The institute is world renowned and not far from me so it seems like a logical possibility.
