Not yet :s Just had the car serviced by a dealer in the UK. I knew the timing chains required replacing, and wanted to make sure the car would be in top condition for the drive home via Europe - so he did it for me this time. I have a slight dilemma with the service stuff. The car has a full service history in the book, and i can not decide if I want to keep it up to date, or start undertaking all the service work myself. I think I will have to find a half way house. Get the car serviced by a dealer to get the stamps, but do all the other stuff myself.

Why do you ask my friend??

Do the easy stuff (oil, filter, brakes, maybe valves) yourself, no need to pay a heap of money for that.
If you keep records of what you do and save recites for oil filters, then its not going to affect the value of the car.

Also it depends on what you goal is? Do you want to service it yourself to save money or for the fun of it?

Cause I am slowly trying to build up confidence to do it myself. I am a total academic, non-mechanic moron with no experience what so ever. And I hate it !

So far done oil change, brake pads and rear shocks. Hoping to receive front shocks next week and change them too.

Next major service is not due till next summer and I figure I can do the rest of the stuff myself - but the valves are giving me the creeps.

Thing is - if I was able to do all the regular maintenance my self - would give me a very accomplished feeling. A lot more than my everyday work does.

A man´s gotta have wheels, and he ought to know his way around the tech stuff....

This is what I have done (what I remember right now) the last 20 months since I bought my car.

*Rebuild all Calipers
*Replaced hard brake lines
*Replaced master brake cylinder
*Replaced flapper boxes
*Replaced rear shocks
*Replaces hood shocks (front and rear)
*Refurbished Fuchs
*Engine drop including following:
- Fixing common oil leaks, sort of, still leaks from places not easy to fix
- Removing and replacing (with the same) fuel injection
- Rebuilding chain tensioners
- Replacing timing chains
- Polished cooling fan
- Valve adjustment

and some other minor stuff.


I was a complete mechanical newbie when I started.

Hmmmm, well - here goes:
.- Pop-off valve.
.- Fitted rear reflector with fog lights.
.- New carpet
.- Replacement sound system
.- Fitted and wired in electric seats.

So, not very much in the engine! Mechanically I am green, but I have a lot of experience and qualifications in electrics

Its really not that hard. You just need the tools, time, motivation (saving money is good one) and this BBS.

I must admit that the timing chains was scary. I didnt want to do that but the Porche Centre (Rydbergs i Nybro) wanted 6-7000 sek (1 day) plus parts to do the job with the engine out of the car. That was NOT going to happend.
