Yes, Finally! GPS Tracking of Sex-Offenders

About damn time. How many high-risk convicted sex offenders have to kill again before this becomes reality? If I had kids, I'd want some sort of alarm to go off when one of these guys' GPS signals was within 100 yards of my house.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/07/29/AR2005072901154_pf.html
Quote:
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Technology that helps the military align targets and motorists find their way is being tapped to track some sex offenders forever.

Spurred by headlines of released sex offenders accused of murder, some states are mandating use of the Global Positioning System for tracking. Many lawmakers see electronic monitoring as a natural evolution of statutes that already require sex offenders to register their addresses with authorities.

At least four states _ Florida, Missouri, Ohio and Oklahoma _ passed laws this year requiring lifetime electronic monitoring for some sex offenders, even if their sentences would normally have expired. Similar bills have been proposed in Congress and other states, including North Dakota and Alabama, where lawmakers this week approved legislation and sent it to the governor.
...
"I think the general public is really not terribly confident that we're getting it right when it comes to pedophiles _ that this individual case-by-case approach is leading to some very horrific situations," he said.

A new Oklahoma law also requires habitual sex offenders to wear GPS monitoring devices for the rest of their lives. Ohio's budget funds lifetime GPS monitoring only for people classified as sexually violent predators.

For a minute I thought you said "UPS tracking of sex offenders". Geez put UPS in charge of tracking them they'll all get off like Jacko!

If they're a dangerous sex offender then proactive policy is best. Never let them out. They should not enjoy freedom with an anklet or not.

I hope this isn't an excuse for the prison system to parole these scums to lessen the burden on the prison population.

Rick,

I disagree slightly. Let them out, then shoot them. Our paying for their sickness the rest of their un-natural life is not correct. Someone who molests kids needs to be put out of their (and our) misery.

I guess I would agree with Joe. It would also help with the temporary prison overcrowding during the much too short sentences.

Yeah, but laws will never be passed to just kill these scumbags, unless I became president somehow. They're already walking the streets among us and your children, so we might as well try to know where they are all the time.

Perhaps shock collars also, so every time they see a potential victim, they get a good tazing.

Sickness? I'll not use that term to describe what these vermin do. Labeling it an illness is the first misstep down a very jagged staircase. It's no more a disease than robbing banks or carjacking. You will never get me to believe that these things don't know that what they are doing is wrong....and just evil. They should get out of prison at the same time that thier victims recover from thier harm. Never.

Have you looked at the sites to see how many offenders are in your neighborhood? I live in CA, and it's very disturbing. I know that some of these people are victim of circumstance: "she said she was 18" type thing. It happens. But if even if you take away 10% of the number on the site....omg.

Iran has taken care of the problem. These two young men raped a younger man and were whipped with a lash over 200 times then hung by the neck until dead. Doubt that they will do it again...
