What do the Pelicanheads do for a living ?

In a previous thread doctors and lawyers were spanked on account of their high incomes.

Being a doctor (for kids) I would like to know what everybody else are doing for a living to be able to afford their P-cars.

If this was the topic of a resent thread, don't hesitate to tell me to bugger off.

I get to design neat things. Like this big carrier (the white thing holding the other hardware) stretching across the payload bay up in orbit right now:

My life is a cross between "Groundhog Day" and "Office Space". I sit in a cubicle all day doing essentially nothing, all the while being overpaid and wondering if today's the day I'll be laid off. I'm working on changing that though, life is too short to vegetate in the corporate cage.

Hmmm...do I sound bitter this morning? Maybe I'd better go get my first cup of coffee...

Director of Technology for a specialty finance startup. My company formalizes informal or private lending situations (everything from "handshake" loans to intra-family mortgages) by doing legal documentation, custom repayment schedules and servicing, tax reporting, peripheral mortgage requirements (title search, escrow, etc) and other things. Our primary product is private mortgage....think about the interest rates made by the bank on a standard amortized mortgage, then think of what appreciation you're seeing from your stock portfolio, or your savings account. If you have the money to lend and real estate to back up the loan, it makes a heck of a lot of sense.
Anyway, now I'm evangelizing. The short answer is: Computer Geek.

Sounds like my job. Actually, I design tooling for the manufacture of composite parts for commercial aircraft. It swings wildly between extremely interesting and challenging, to incredibly boring and mundane. Sometimes in the same day.

I'm right there right now too.

The simple fact is that my team got our project done according to the original schedule, and now the schedule has been adjusted so many times we are now going out 1½-2 years later than originally planned. It's not any other team's fault either; the original schedule was ridiculously optimistic (read: insanely unrealistic).

So I sit...and wait. We haven't been given a date yet that we are going to find out when our project will go live. Things will get ridiculously busy about a month before that, and stay busy until the next phase of the project gets hung up.

I fly for a living. No, I don't sing. When AOL first started, I was based in Singapore. It was the best way to connect to the states.

I am usually in a Gulfstream 4 or a Gulfstream 550.

Wouldn't be a bad job if it weren't for the GD customers.

Right now I drive one of these. It's not very exciting.

Soon, I'll go back to driving one of these (not this one, necessarily). I can hardly wait. Driving a desk just isn't that interesting.
