Big brother wants to watch your... car
Brit License Plates Get Chipped
By Mark Baard 02:00 AM Aug. 09, 2005 PT The British government is preparing to test new high-tech license plates containing microchips capable of transmitting unique vehicle identification numbers and other data to readers more than 300 feet away. Officials in the United States say they'll be closely watching the British trial as they contemplate initiating their own tests of the plates, which incorporate radio frequency identification, or RFID, tags to make vehicles electronically trackable. "We definitely have an interest in testing an RFID-tagged license plate," said Jerry Dike, chairman of the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators and director of the Vehicle Titles and Registration Division of the Texas Department of Transportation..."

At the end of the book, Winston Smith sincerely loved big brother, didn't he?

I am in the process of renewing my Passport. Was notified that my renewed passport would contain an RFID chip to 'prevent alteration of my identity data.'
There has been some press about this. That it could be 'scanned' some distance away. They say that the cover will contain foil to cut down on 'unauthorized access'. Somehow, the purported purpose and the required safeguards seem to be at odds.

Even low tech licence plates can be read at 300 feet by anyone who pleases.
The Brits have had some success zoning central London and clearing out excess traffic. If you want to travel the most crowded roads at the most crowded times you should pay for the privilege.. Hopefully this technology develops as did the "EZ-Pass" - the electronic toll collection system used in the Northeast. It has worked wonders at toll booths. They could easily catch speeders with the system in place, but dont. |

HHEHEHEHEHE....My Gulfstream is now on order...... I have a stake in a British Co that is putting devices in cars that will kill the electronic systems in the event of theft...other uses for the system are pay as you drive insurance and pay as you drive road useage....
This Ltd was this close to signing Bentley when at the last moment Bentley started demanding a price break, and the deal fell through...however the Ltd quickly signed 2 other "Prestigious" Euro car mfgs to install their devices....the BBC has even interviewed my contact with the Ltd in conjunction with Warwick University about these systems.....the Brit insurance industry has given it's stamp of approval and the USA insurance co's will soon have to approve them as well. Hmmm I wonder what the speed limit is on a Gulfstream....
