1.800 US dead

It's pretty well documented that W was openly talking about 'regime change' in Iraq in 1999. And only days after the 9/11 attacks, Rumsfeld had strike targets in Iraq plotted out -- even while admitting that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

So, the question remains: how many deaths are "tolerable" to you people who believe disposing of a petty dictator was worth the collective cost in damage to US prestige, a trillion in indebtedness to China, 12,000+ wounded and now, 1,800 dead US soldiers, and, oh yeah, 20-100K dead Iraqis.

This is a sad milestone.

Maybe you want to convey that sentiment to the parents/siblings/wife/children of #1817, Staff Sgt. Jason W. Montefering, 27, of Parkston, S.D.

Personally I don't think any of it was worth it but since we are there we should simply offer them statehood.

kach, you forgot to add a hitler moustache

Those men and women are heroes, they are doing what they signed up for, and each death is a tragedy. War is ugly, pacifism doubly so.

Would you be willing to join that party? Club Dead, I think it is? Didn't think so. Neither was Bush, or any of the other architects of this incredibly failed policy. Viva la ignorance!

YAWN? Could you be more of an A55HOLE?

Our soldiers are dying in the field, and 'yawn' is your comment.

So, thats how it plays out. You war supporters know damn well that this thing has went to ****, so you figure that instead of fessing up to the foolishness of it, you'll just blow it off.

What happened to the 'personal responsibilty' I hear Repulicans ranting about? How about taking responsibility for your support of an poorly planned out, poorly executed war (please note that I did NOT say unjust).

Gee, so sorry to BORE you. The national disaster we call the 'Iraq War', well hell, that just BORING. I wish these pesky liberals would quit pointing out how wrong I was, its BORING.

It will all be worth it when Iraq succumbs to the refreshing model of democracy we have promoted for so many years elsewhere, like Saudi Arabia.

More ranting and raving. Can you give an example of a war that didn't have setbacks, planning changes, and changes to the original tactical plan? What is the "perfect" war for a liberal, other than Vietnam, of course.

Interesing choice of words: succumb.

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=succumb&x=0&y=0

1 : to yield to superior strength or force or overpowering appeal or desire
2 : to be brought to an end (as death) by the effect of destructive or disruptive forces

Since we're creating a "democracy" at gunpoint, the phrase overpowering appeal or desire doesn't really apply, unless you mean the overwhelimg desire not to get shot.

I tried joining three times. Passed the methacoline challenge and was still rejected for having asthma as a child, which I don't believe I actually had. Do you have an answer, or more attacks?

Well, we already have the perfect example in Iran. notice how the neocons aren't crowing about the blossoming of democracy in Iran? It's because Iran voted to tilt back toward the Ayatolla's way of thinking. Damn, there goes our excuse to attack them to 'bring them democracy.'

And of course, our intelligence about Iran's nuclear programs was set back when Rove & co. 'outed' one of our WMD analysts... 'round and 'round it goes.

I read that KBR is looking for a few good men.

WASHINGTON -- U.S. troops in Iraq suffered through months of unnecessarily poor living conditions because some civilian contractors hired by the Army for logistics support failed to show up, Army officers said.
You can even be awarded a Purple Heart.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A22547-2004May12.html
Quote:
While on missions in Iraq last year, 35-year-old Todd Drobnick was attacked by small-arms fire, grenades and makeshift bombs. Yet he continued to go out day after day, until he died in a vehicle crash on his way from one U.S. military base to another. For his loyalty and dedication, he was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Thousands of Americans in Iraq have received such honors, but Drobnick's case was unusual: He wasn't a soldier. He was a private contractor working with a translation company.
You can even wear the uniform:

http://www.corpwatch.org/article.php?id=12003
Quote:
When I approached this person, I noticed he was unshaven, slovenly and, put succinctly, fat. He wore his uniform in much the same way a camel might wear his fur — unknowingly, smeared with filth and conspicuously covered in drool.

Of course this person was no Marine. As it turned out, he was an American contractor who had been “gifted” with our uniform. He was wearing it, cover off and trousers unbloused, as if he were a fourth-grader prepping himself for a wild night of trick-or-treating.
It's not your father's or grand father's war.
