Political disagreement - gone bad

NEW YORK It was bound to happen sooner or later, and in what newspapers in Kentucky are calling a first, one American has killed another in a dispute over the Iraq war.

It happened at Floyd County flea market on Thursday, when two friends, who were firearms vendors there, drew guns after quarreling about the war. Douglas Moore, 65, of Martin, who backs the war, shot and killed Harold Wayne Smith, 56, of Manchester, who opposed it, according to investigators............ The dead man was apparently just a little slower in firing. .......... It was just a political disagreement, like a whole lot of people have."

Has our civil war started already?

Don't you think it likely that if neither chap had a gun that they probably would have run out of breath/energy (and more importantly - righteous indignation) swinging/dodging each other's attempts at physical assault long before any real damage would have been done to anyone?

The only thing that gets equalized in this equation is the level of cowardice, fear and human destruction. Guns can permanently crystalize what would otherwise be a fleeting, harmless instance of outrage.

But I guess I'm missing the point of that old gem: "Bats don't knock baseballs outta the park - players do" or somesuch nonsense.

HTF can a political argument escalate to that? And BTW, I doubt that any "liberals" were involved here, there aren't any liberals selling guns at a gun show. One can be a *real* conservative, (as opposed to a GOP party hack), and admit that the invasion of Iraq was the most pig-headed, stupid, corrupt and dishonest thing that any president has ever gotten away with in American history. "The biggest scandal ever perpetuated on the American people...."

I believe in the rights of gun owners in most cases, but I have to agree w/ purrybonker on this one: This is a textbook example of a situation where if people did not have immediate access to a gun, no one would be dead. And of course Fintstone is reliably FOS, he doesn't know who drew first, which guy was physically tougher, etc., etc.... It just fits this particualar story if the evil "liberal" gun dealer was the bad guy. Riiiiiight.....

I guess if you had a bit better reading comprehension...and a bit of logic...it would be clear to you too. The police let the much older man go and did not charge him after he convinced them it was self defense. Logic would lead a reasonable person to believe that one of the witnesses would have convinced the police otherwise if that were not the case.
I don't know about "tougher"....but that was your word wasn't it? I do know that one man (deceased) was much younger.
