Angry BEWARE: Indiana, PA 911 for sale

just a heads up. I spent $200 Thursday on a PPI for a 911 in Indiana, PA. I offered the owner what he is asking for (car is on Autotrader) and told him I would make the 6 hour drive to buy the car the next day and..... he wont sell it...he wants to wait and see how many calls he gets on it first. Apparently this guy (plu is his name) is into tire kickers and playing games, therefore don't let him drag you along and waste your time or money.... believe me, he doesn't want to sell it. (he wouldn't even send pictures. Very fishy.......)

That sucks, but there is a lesson for everyone here which is to never spend a cent on a PPI unless a tentative deal is worked out, at the bare minimum an agreement that you have right of first refusal at asking price for a period of a day or two. Otherwise, you may be just paying for someone else's PPI.

And that was an expensive PPI.

The best course to take, IMO, is to have someone local from this board or the PCA take a look at the car for free, (make sure that it passes the "smell test", etc..), before investing further time or $$. The local can also feel out the seller for you face-to-face and see if you are dealing w/ a POS like this guy.

Sorry to hear about it, and thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like someone got a free professional checkup and an appraisal.

I'd want his head for that. Hope that the PPI wasn't given to him.

You are right about me being livid! In any event, I have done everything in my power to ensure he does not get the PPI.... my search continues!

How did this go down? Did the owner bring the car to the mechanic and you paid via phone/visa...or did you pay the owner directly to have it done...In that case you'd be out of luck with the PPI. But if you paid the mechanic directly then I suppose you could have had them fax the results to you directly...they would then give the keys back to the owner that in fact brought the car and let him know that the results went to you and he would not be entitled to them...just wanted to know the specifics because I intend to make an inquiring/harassing call this A-Hole.

Contact AutoTrader, they'll pull his ad if they believe you or get complaints from others. It looks bad for their service if people are listing cars for sale then aren't selling them. It may take a day or two, but if you phrase your communication to AutoTrader properly (blame them for allowing people to run bogus ads), you'll probably get a response from them and they'll at least look into it.

He might have a friend, or someone local interested in the car (maybe the mechanic who did the PPI). If he does call you back offering you the car, it means that deal didn't go through.

If you hear back from him, make sure you have a story about some great deal you're looking into and would only be interested in his car now if he's knocking a few thousand dollars off his asking price.

The used car market is very soft everywhere (yes, even for used Porsches with low mileage); I think he’ll be lucky if he gets what he’s asking. In fact, you may have confused him in offering what he’s asking; he may have been expecting to get lower offers and is worried he priced the car too low and is stalling while he tries to find out how much his car is worth.

It’s a buyers market; I think he’ll regret not taking your original offer if you can play it cool if/when he calls you back.

Thanks for your posts to my PPI nightmare. I received some emails on how this all went down.....

I called the shop and had them perform the PPI. They called me, got my VISA #, then proceeded to fax my checklist back to me. Nothing shady there.

I called this morning and spoke with the shop to ensure they not give a copy of the report to the owner and they ensured they would not under any circumstance. The owner did mention that he talked with the owner in general about the car when he picked it up.

Some fun for the story... I called the owner over the weekend and told him he had 3 options
1. sell me the car at what he posted it for (someone from the board offered to go and look at the car for me which I thought was cool).
2. send me $200
3. see me in court

I surely dont plan to go to court over $200 but he seemed like the kind of guy who I could maybe scare a bit.... I have to get something out of this.... he then proceeded to tell me he needed to think about it, talk to his therapist and then he would get back to me tonight by 6...... and what do you think? There was no call. I think this guy is off of his rocker...or just greedy.

If someone does call this guy I would be interested what in the world he is asking for the car now.

I never thought people could be this *****ty.
Thanks for all your posts! I have learned my lesson, thats for sure.

My search continues......

He needs to talk to his therapist about selling his car?

Well, there you have it! You don't have to be a sane person to be a Porsche owner!

What a wack job!

Maybe this guy thought his car had some issues and was trying to get a free diagnosis?

That sucks either way--Indiana is sort of a small town dominated by the University--if anyone was there, a 911 would stand-out.

$22.5 k for a 35,000 mile g-50 carrera black coupe? Somebody got to him and said - you can get more than that - these are collector cars, you know...

Tell him to send you the $200 out of the proceeds.

I'm with Targa on this one - Show up at his house and kick him in the nuts - then take the car.
