Name your Anti-Depressant

This should be fun. I'm on 10mg's of Lexapro & it has changed my life...Anxiety down 90%...Depressive thoughts down too. Been through therapy, strong believer of chemical imbalance. I know I'm not alone. If I hear crickets chirping on this thread I'll be pissed. :)

Prozac Baby, Prozac

30mg

Saved my life!

M.D. Holloway 08-18-2005 04:20 PM

Max & Emmy...advise to take in large doses daily if not hourly. Carefull, addiction will quickly occur and will be impossable to break.

Seconded. Even downshifting and taking a country corner works.

My wife is on Lexapro, and it's changed "my" life :D

I was on Prozac for a bit and couldn't get wood. Lexapro, no problemo...

nostatic 08-18-2005 05:04 PM

was on nortryptaline for a few months, very low dose. Have been on and off xanax as needed over the past two years. Low dose with that too. Given my past history I watch my meds really closely.

So today I find out that my 56 year old brother (13 years older than me) likely has Alzheimer's. That isn't helping my anxiety. Combine that with a divorce, a g/f breakup and a new boss (who wants me to "redefine" my job). Oh yeah, and my car getting stolen Tuesday.

No wonder I'm back on my xanax. But more important therapy is next week at Laguna Seca. And two weeks after that at Willow. And two weeks after that at Willow. And two weeks after that at Thunderhill.

BlueSkyJaunte 08-18-2005 05:41 PM

Sex.

mikester 08-18-2005 05:46 PM

Heavy doses of sex with my Wife.

Heavy doses of time with my Son.

Heavy doses of time doing things that are fun for me with my friends, cars, bull**** like this board and radio control airplanes....

...and every now and again a crazy expensive trip to vegas where my friends beg me to go to a strip club where all I want to do is sit at a comforatable bar in a casino and nurse a comfortable buzz.

MysticLlama 08-18-2005 06:46 PM

I took Welbutrin for a couple months, never ever again.

I felt great while it was in effect, more energy, more willing to go do stuff, etc.

But if I missed the 2nd pill of the day by 20 minutes or so I turned into a basket case.

I just couldn't handle the dependency, so I quit taking it, haven't bothered taking anything else, my life isn't nearly as bad as those side effects were. :)

When are you going to Thunderhill? Maybe I can join you.

notfarnow 08-18-2005 06:52 PM

Chance. Every night after work for about 30-40 minutes, he joins me for a nap on the couch. He's old, he stinks and he eats his own crap, but he's my best bud.

nostatic 08-18-2005 07:00 PM

Thunderhill is Oct 8-9. There is a practice day on the 7th, but I have a panel discussion at work that I can't miss. As soon as that's over I'm heading north...should pull in late Friday night.

Next weekend I'm at Laguna Seca. Maybe some of the bay area pelicans want to meet halfway somewhere for dinner.

WOODPIE 08-18-2005 07:16 PM

My anti-depressant is my ability to accept the fact that I will, on occasion, have a really shi**y day, or week, or weeks, but it will either pass, or I will get used to it. Nothing lasts forever! It really does!

Jeez man, sorry to hear that life is not treating you right. Sounds like you need a few hours in a cat house in Vegas to take your mind off of life!

Sorry to hear about your brother. Had this in my family but later on and we kinda expected it. Get him on meds and from what I hear it is a world of difference from what we did not have to work with even 10 years ago.

Will hold the thought for you. As for the race track, its easy. Push on the right pedal, and when it feels good push a bit harder! :)

I chase my blues away with:
-Successful MILF hunting.
-alcohol
-motorcycles
-being onstage (I play in a punk rock band)
-more booze
-running.

targa911S 08-19-2005 07:17 AM

reefer. Playing bass. Going fast. Not all at the same time.

DeutschMark 08-19-2005 07:27 AM

A hard workout at the gym or a long run always lifts my spirits. A successful repair/mod on the Porsche or the motorcycle followed by a long drive also seems to do the trick.

Dantilla 08-19-2005 07:46 AM

I go fly an airplane for an hour or two. Always sets things right again.

Sometimes a solo hike in the mountains.
Sometimes a spirited drive.
Sometimes roasting marshmallows over a fire in my back yard with my wife and friends.
Sometimes doing ten year old things with my ten year old daughter.

Yup, life is pretty good.

JavaBrewer 08-19-2005 08:12 AM

I self medicate with coffee in the morning then wine or the occasional margarita 5:00PM ->. Thankfully no need for something stronger yet.

Todd - so the Subie got taken? Have you recovered it?

304065 08-19-2005 08:42 AM

Dantilla, I second the "fly an airplane" thing.

In the cockpit you cannot think of anything else but what you are doing and keeping your mind ahead of the airplane.

The only person responsible for you having a great flight is YOU. The only person keeping you from buying a ride from Charon, boatman of the river Styx, is YOU. YOU are in control.

Looking down on the earth below, it's the same way some people feel in a tall building, or reading a map, or looking at Google Earth-- not a "G_d complex" but a mixture of wonder at the extent of human settlement, and the insignificance of all of it compared to the timelessness of the earth itself.

Flying is not merely a mountain of technical information that you learn over a great deal of time-- not merely a mix of cognitive situational awareness and physical coordination, and not merely a VERY safety-conscious, hazard-aware mindset. It's all of these simultaneously, worn like a second skin that you strap on when you enter the cockpit and then reluctantly take off when you return to the world.

But nothing lasts forever. Every time you take off you have a plan for how you're going to land. Flying an instrument approach is like surgery-- the patient can only be open for a certain amount of time, everything must be done right, and then everything must be stitched up correctly. If things don't go right, you can't just throw up your hands and pull over. In the middle of it, though, time seems to drag on for hours, not because of adrenaline, but because your mind is so stimulated by the constant attention required.

And like all good addictions it's expensive as hell.

Wrecked944 08-19-2005 10:06 AM

Paxil, baby. Saved my life but made me fat as a cow. I used to be a devoted bodybuilder so the fat is pretty hard to take. But if you down enough hits of Paxil, you don't mind. :D:D

wholberg 08-19-2005 10:08 AM

I went on Paxil after my first wife passed away. It got me through the worst part, but then I stayed on it because of a small side effect...it ended years of intermittent insomnia.

It also evens out my natural moodiness. Better living through Chemistry!

KevinP73 08-19-2005 10:31 AM

OK I'll join in.
For me the best anti-d is sex with my friend Carol. But untill her husband gets a new job I still have my kayak. Nothing more relaxing than drifting out to sea and then just lay back and let the world rotate under me.

masraum 08-19-2005 10:43 AM

it's a state of mind. Got to take time to look at and enjoy stuff, flowers, birds, kids, sunsets, cars, whatever

Decolliber 08-19-2005 11:39 AM

What is a MILF?

Alcohol & pot made me depressed and antidepressants made me gain weight and (more seriously) prevented the blood circulating to the extremities. Travel & exercise (preferably together) are the best a-d for me. Wife and I went to Peru for 2 weeks and did 4 day hike on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The effects last for months and you lose weight too. Spectacular scenery:
http://myweb.uiowa.edu/jconybea/peru_trip.htm
Next year I think we will go hiking in Greece.

Why? Were you waiting for Mark Wilson to say your hand? Or is there someone else that thinks your hand is the solution to his depression? Inquiring minds . . .

Dirkclod 08-19-2005 12:39 PM

zanax 3 times a day.

juanbenae 08-19-2005 12:42 PM
