Things to do in San Diego?

My girlfriend has a conference in San Diego this weekend and I'm thinking of going with her... I'd have Saturday to myself.

Any recommendations on what to do and see? Any Porsche related stuff or nice 911's for sale to check out?

Gas light district for dinner and drinks, San Diego Zoo, probably the best zoo in the United States. The Hotel Del Coronado is an absolute must for at least drinks. La Jolla (pronounced La hoya) to see how the rich people live. Go over the border to Tijuana if you dare, you need mexican car insurance and I'm not sure that you can get it with a rental car. Seaworld is pretty cool as well. The San Diego Wild Animal park in Escondido area is pretty good too. Oh, Porsche stuff, go the the San Diego Auto Museum, its pretty good.

See if you can get some SD Pelicans to do a meet and greet for lunch or drinks!

If you are from a part of the country that has been hot and humid lately, it will be a real treat. I went down to La Jolla when it was 95 in L.A. a few weeks ago and it was sweater weather after sunset. You just cannot believe how beautiful it is right there; the surf, the white sand beach, the coves, the dry air, etc...

You do not need to die to go to heaven, just go to the beach in LJ. SoCal, baby.....

Go see Symbolic Motors in La Jolla.

They tend to have some impressive stuff on display/for-sale.

we'll have races at del mar racetrack if you like horses. torrey pines has some pretty sweet walking trails in the park next to the golf course.

best burger in town: hodad's in ocean beach. go for the bacon cheese burger with grilled onions. you will not be disappointed. tacos on every corner. however, avoid anything ending in -berto's. hillcrest has the best restaurants in town.

weather was HOT today. and it's still sticky at 10pm. not sure what denis was talking about wearing a sweater. that's crazy talk.

email me if you need more info.

Must be a different weather pattern now, Matt. It is sticky here tonight as well, (though what we call "sticky" here would be dry in most of the country in the summer), but a few weeks ago it was cool down there and hot in L.A.

Either way, SD will be heavenly this time of year compared to the eastern or southern half of the country.

You must be kidding! Back in the college days, we practically LIVED on Robertos! (It was the after-partying 2nd dinner around midnite)

I agree the knock-offs are not the same.

IIRC the original Rubios is in SD as well.

The thing is....

It all depends on your age and what you like...

If you're in your 20's and like to party, Pacific Beach or the Gas Lamp.

If you want cool scenes in the "interesting" part of town (not that there is anything wrong with that), Hillcrest is great.

For a Car Geek, I second Symbolic.

If you like Zoo's, the San Diego Zoo is one of the best in the world. Same with Sea World. Special note, Sea World has fireworks every night in the Summer.

If she in on a conference, you'll probably be near the Gas Lamp, and it is a great fun place. Dont plan for the beach too much, the water in San Diego is cold. Pacific Beach is the best beach. Coronado has the best "family" beach. Ocean Beach is great, if you're a hippy or hippy wannabe...

If you can get away on Sunday, meet us on Ortega Highway in the early morning. It is about an hour and a half North.

We have a group of So. Cal Pelicans getting together for a drive -

I have eaten a ton or two of Alberto's rolled tacos con guacamole. Roberto's too. No problem with -berto's shack food. It is a part of San Diego cuisine

berto's

i should clarify the -berto's comment...

i also love Roberto's. however, my experience with adelberto's and alberto's will leave you with that, "not so fresh feeling"...

then again, coming from PA, anything out here will blow away the midwest's take on mexican. i reference growing up in michigan... just look for the "taco shop" signs. you'll be fine.

later

Ditto on it depends what kind of entertainment you are looking for.
The zoo is great as is the park around the zoo with museums etc., could easily spend a whole day there.

If you want to do an adventure you can catch a trolley into Tijuana... put a chain on your wallet

TJ is nowhere near as bad as the hype...

And it's really not worth doing either...

Never actually been to TJ... except to maybe throw up on the way back home... always drove straight thru to Ensanada.

Some of the guys at work go down to TJ for the adult entertainment, but doesn't sound like what he's looking for.

I definitely prefer Ensenada, but he can't take a rental car down there...Punta Banda is a great tourist trap. The same stuff as TJ, cheaper, safer, and you get to see La Bufadora.
