Last month:
"Let's see", said the Oil Company CEO, "should we go to the expense of doing needed repairs and increasing output, or should we just raise the price due to decreased supply?" "Hmmmmm...."

This week:
"Boy", said the Oil Company CEO, "that hurricane sure kicked the crap out of our refinery and supply chain, should we hurry up and fix it, or should we just raise the price a lot more due to decreased supply? Besides, if we wait, we'll probably get federal assistance and insurance payouts, too." "Hmmmm..."

Next year:
"Well", said the Oil Company CEO, "it looks like everything is flowing well again, and those poor bastards seemed to have cut back on their demand, so let's drop the price. How's a nickel per gallon sound?. After all, we do want to show a nice result for our shareholders."

Hmmmm...

Don't mean to take awy from the original topic, but we're next in the Northeast.

Well it's a pretty major port, and a region that the US heavily depends on for petrochems. So this is not say Boston or Tampa.

The terrorists are only disappointed in the sense that they can't claim responsibility (unless OBL really has a direct line to Allah). You bet they are considering hits on infrastructure like water, power, etc.

I am ordering two 55 gallon drums of 89 octane from a supplier tomarrow, just in case. It will cost me dearly but the loss of revenue for my business in retrospect would be staggering.

I am never one to look to the government for help. I learned that about 10 hours after my first major hurricane. If you are looking to insurance companies and government for help you are screwed.

Possible gas shortage?

I think outside the box and buy from race gas suppliers. I might get fruity and buy 4 drums tomarrow.

Rikao4 09-01-2005 10:39 AM

Think back,
They bring it up..we *****,drop it a little,all quiet,bring it up,we *****,drop it a little,all quiet,bring it up,we *****,drop a little,all quiet,when we reach 4+, we will say..at least it's not 5..yet.
great plan..and it's working just fine...

I just bought close to $1000 worth of racing fuel (101 octane) from VP Racing Fuels. I will have three 55 gallon drums in my shop tomarrow and not a minute too soon.

All the gas stations in town here have run out of fuel. I just spent 2 hours running around finding 15 gallons of 87 octane.

We can mix 1:1 the 101 ans 87 and our Toyota trucks will run fine. I cannot use the 101 straight up.... well my RX-7 will like it.

Here is the skinny per the salesperson at VP. They just got a delivery today that they were expecting since Monday. Since the refineries that supply the Southeast are in NO area and are not functioning they are having to get the fuel from Texas.

Since I-10 is closed. The tankers are having to go up and around to get to the SE. This is taking from 3-6 more days than a normal delivery.

If Joe Blow gas station owner/manager ordered his refuel like everything is normal he will/is running out of fuel.

Hopefully in a week things will return to normal, although I think the media will create widespead panic and make this 10X worse. So expect this BS to go one for 3-6 weeks.

Good luck everyone.

I sure hope that people are smart enough to use extreme conservation, (eliminate ALL unnecessary driving, carpool w/ full cars, etc..), the current situation sucks but let's face it, probably 50% of our normal use is waste. One person in an empty SUV or truck, driving to the store for one item, recreational activities that all center around burning assloads of gasoline, etc, etc...

I would love to see oil companies experience a drastic reduction in demand for their products, but I'm not counting on it.

And before you write me off as just another liberal tree-hugger, I like cheap oil and motorsports as much as the next guy. Maybe more. Still, I'm not blind and I look around for all of my life and see people just flat wasting resources in the U.S. And why not? Oil was cheap and the govt. and industry had no incentive to encourage conservation. Now people are going to take the bull by the horns and do it themselves, I hope.

$6 / gal. for tooling around.
Yikes.
But, business is business.
Why couldn't you use it straight up?

turbo6bar 09-01-2005 11:49 AM

I would be happy to buy gas at any price. Western TN is getting crunched. Gas stations are out of gas. This is not fun. I'm going to order a bike rack for the rear of my mountain bike (easy city errands). I'm glad I'm not working for a living (don't drive to work).

I'm hearing of gas stations runn9ing out here as well.

According to press the South and Northeast are to feel the pinch first. Guess we're feeling it. I'm thinking of taking my Harley off the market and recommissioning....

likemystoppie? 09-01-2005 11:56 AM

Can I just say........now is the time to pull our troops out, and set up ecofencing and geofencing around our country, and maybe a select few allies.

We need to take care of our own for now. I'm sick of our President and our current coarse..........I want chage NOW!!

bryanthompson 09-01-2005 11:59 AM

yes, our current coarse is very rough, gosh dangit

likemystoppie? 09-01-2005 12:09 PM

Thanks for the correction. Apparently my I forgot to install batteries in my 'phonics' implant today.........:D

But that's just it. One port is not that critical. This is a convenient excuse to ass stab us again.
You know not of which you speak. One port IS that important. The vast majority of gas on the East Coast comes from two lines originating in New Orleans.

Your statement is a good example of how we, the citizens of the USA, have left ourselves vulnerable by buying into the politics of environmental groups without understanding the subject. These are the "metro-environmentalist" of our populace.

BTW: Gas was at $3.69 a gallon here as of 3:00pm. That's for regular. Of course no one hasregular any more, so you have to buy premium at $3.89 a gallon.

Diesel here just hit $3 a gallon its the same price a premium. Af course a diesel get ways better gas milage so its a good trade huh?
$3 a gallon???!!!

$3 A GALLON!!!!!!!!

right now in the uk we pay $1.75 a LITRE. yes. thats right, $1.75

i have a toyota hilux 4x4 2.4 turbo diesel (tacoma). i filled it up this morning. it cost me $125

and its going up all the time...

layzee 09-01-2005 02:55 PM

Yes but these events leave the US (according to BBC) with some of the highest pre-tax fuel prices in the world.

Despite at $3/gallon it is still 3 times cheaper than we pay, we are used to it and insulated from these price rises. Hence how cost has gone up maybe 15% for the UK, compared to doubling in the US. That would really hurt any economy.

adomakin 09-01-2005 02:59 PM

very good point phil, when you put it like that.

We pay 48 cents a gallon in taxes. What do you pay in taxes? $1.00 a liter?

Apples and Oranges my firend. You're government has already learned to rape you on taxes. Ours needs another decade...

(The real economic difference is, our gas prices rose 173% in two days. What would you do if gas was $2.60/ltr staring Saturday? What if gas was projected to be $5.00/ltr on Monday?)

http://www.wral.com/apncnews/4921436/detail.html

90% of the gas coming into NC is controlled by 2 pipelines. They were shut off on Monday. No one said a thing until today! Best case scenaro for a return to flow is Sat or Sunday.

Most stations only hold 4-5 days worth so most of NC will be w/o gas for a few days. The piedmont area will run out a bit later then the mountain part of the state but we'll also get resupplied at a later date.

This is a SERIOUS problem for this state. It's not that gas costs $X.XX. Our problem is that we won't have any gas at all!

Ever seen the Colonial Pipeline tank farm in Greensboro (my old hometown)? There's quite a bit of gas there! You'll probably be fine. Colonial has already restarted operations at 35% I understand. WNC may have trouble, but probably not the piedmont.

Dixie 09-01-2005 03:49 PM

Spoke to my sister in Atlanta. Some stations there are charging over $6.00/gallon. I think that's price gouging, but then again people are willing to pay it.

$2.60 on Tuesday...
$6.00 on Thursday...
