Anyone shop at Dillard's?

G9Girl has an "in" with Dillard's and a proposal for a G9Girl store within a store concept, drives and in-store copies of Chain Reaction with Dillard's coupons has gone out.

I've looked at the product mix online and it seems to be on par with Macy's but not quite Nordstrom's.

Anyone shop there? What is the local image of the store?

I've shopped at Dillard's in Central CA. I agree that it's on par with Macy's and the old Emporium stores. Not quite Nordstrom but above Penney's and Sears. Store image is good, uncluttered aisles, at least where I went. I actually thought Dillard's and Macy's were affiliated because they look and "feel" very similar.

My opinion is pretty much the same as cantdrv55.

Dillard's?

Is it as fancy as 'Farm and Fleet'?

Dillards is a midwest / south chain - at least I have never seen them up North. My wife likes it and I always thought it was a Filenes knock-off. Are they owned by May?

thanks everyone for your thoughts!

Michael, Dillard's is one of the few independent department stores left.

Federated Department Stores (Macy's, etc.) recently bought May Company (Filene's, Foley's, etc.) and is converting everything that isn't Bloomingdales into a Macy's flagship brand.

Dillard's has 330 or so stores. I think we could provide a real competitive advantage at least in terms of girls.

The midwest and south should respond well, they love this sort of thing - if you can tie in the mother/daughter angle it should play out well.

Nest step is to get some credit cards issued!

You're going to have to be somewhat careful on putting an "abundance" of goods in....they don't take regular perms on items like Federated or May (I'm in the mens area), they only have 2 "sales" annually, the biggest one (for me) has been the post Christmas event. The big problem with that is they like to put ALL goods on sale for the event, which mean they limit the amount of Holiday goods they take in. Their overall selling rate is usually slower by comparison to a Federated or May (from my experience). At least that's what I've seen. Note that Dillards isn't my account, I've got Foleys, Rob May, Macy's West and Northwest, Gottschalks, and Fields, but I do have access to all of our selling reports.

good luck!

By the way...I was at Magic last week, and did my store tour after we wrapped it up on Thursday. Best housekeeping was at Rob May, followed by Macy's, Dillards looked like crap....good thing you will get a "shop in shop", at least you would have some control over your area.

hey Erik,

WOW, I wish I had known you were at MAGIC, we could have gotten together. we were there too, in Juniors, across from Nicki Hilton. It was a really good show for us as a young company. have you followed the G9Girl progression here in OT the last year or so? We're finally in a really good place, but a lot of hard work in front of us. Let's talk PM/email/phone sometime if you are so inclined. We're a little different than your average tween girl's line.

Shaun

With Limited Too's $675M in sales last year over 500 stores, our goal is to capture 1% of that market in '06. Combining a G9Girl store in a store like Macy's or Dillard's with an actively engaged community of girls 9-13, we may just have a shot.

Just need the distribution.

My wife and daughter shop at Dillards often (here in Houston). They say it is OK, bit they seem to prefer Parisian's in Birmingham or Atlanta for their serious shopping. They do that trip a few times per year just to keep the closets full. I hear nothing bad said about Dillard's by them, but seems they prefer the buyers choices by Parisian's better. Seems Dillard's is closing that gap in the last several years.

Dillards is a great store for women and juniors fashions. High quality stuff without crazy prices. Wife and daughter do most of their shopping there (but wait for sales).

Dillard's is quite popular here in my area. Large selection / good prices. My wife purchases Nauctica shirts for me in bulk whenever Dillard's has a sale on these items. I also purchased a $500 gift card for my wife there for Valentine's Day because she enjoys the store. Similiar to ricochet's response, my wife and daughter go the Birmingham or Atlanta for their MAJOR shopping excusions.
