4.000.000 barrels of oil... leaking

It's not getting much press, but there are two two-million barrel capacity storage tanks south of NO that are damaged and leaking and inaccessible except by water... and in a typical case of wonderful planning, are adjacent to a wildlife preserve.

I guess the worst part of all of this is that there are plenty more big storms possible this season.

I did hear about this, they are leaking into secondary containment then being either pumped out from there or pumped back into primary.

There was a smaller one that had breach both and spilled into the environment, the sandbagged the breach in the secondary and are cleaning up the mess.

I don't remeber which source I got that at, but at least one media outlet of some type is paying attention.

I was curious what happens when the drilling platforms in the Gulf break free and float ashore...obviously all the drilling was stopped before the platforms were evacuated. But I wonder if there are arresting valves on the pipes underwater that shut and cap the pipes if the platform breaks free...I know nothing about oil rigs. Just wondering...sounded like 7 of the 9 were damaged, and I know I saw at least 1 of them on the news that floated way in by the coastline. Gonna take some serious tug-boat power to drag those back home...

That's great news.

I really hate it that most of the US media can only handle one story -- or one aspect of a story -- at a time.

BG, the wells are capped off at the sea bed, so even if the platform breaks free, no oil escapes.

I think that's right over by me on Dauphin Is., floated 60 miles and beached itself.

They also had a "floatel" (same as an oil platform, but with living and service facilities, no drill) that was in for repairs get loose here and wedge itself under a local bridge. Pretty damn funny as the engineers scratched their heads planning the weeks and month it would take to safely remove it, the next day it just floated away and had to be chased by 4 tugs.

My company provides voice and data services over satellite links for many of the rigs, ships, semi-submersibles, etc... that are in the Gulf. I've been working 12+hr days since the hurricane to get communications to rigs, on shore facilities, and non-oil industry locations.

What I've heard is that 50 or 60 locations were damaged, and of those 30 were lost entirely. Pretty much every major storm that comes through the Gulf ends up breaking a rig loose. The thing that seems weird to me is that the companies "lose" the rigs and have to fly around looking for them. You'd think that in this day and age on something like an oil rig there'd be a GPS locator beacon.

Don't worry weenie, they are doing their damndest to take down the man you hate the most...let the pros handle propaganda; they are in bed with your type so you only have yourself to blame.

BTW...oil is naturally derived
