Just watched Bush 1 and Clinton where WalMart donated 22 million to the cause and any WalMart employee will have a job in any store in any town where they end up until New Orleans is ready for them to return.

Not a big WalMart fan (refuse to shop there to tell the truth, no matter how cheap they are) but they sure are helping the community and their people.

Thats great to hear!

It just angers me that two of the largest companies in America,
are pulling lint out of their pockets to help out.

They're so broke, they'll have to sell bonds just to donate this much.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

And how much did you donate? If you don't like it go raise some money then. Who are you to say that "only" $400k is nothing?

I think GM, Ford and other companies will donate more over time, when they assess the situation - including the public relations implications.

How many cars were destroyed in the flooding? All those cars will be replaced.

Katrina = windfall for auto makers.

$400,000? As a gesture, it's slightly worse than doing nothing.

$500,000,000.00 from Kuwait for hurricane relief. Good for them. That was very nice. Don't have much to say other than that...just thought people would like to know.

Apparently, Quatar has also offered some money...$100,000,000.00. We have some friends in the middle east. Thanks to them as well.

Comparing my income and GM's, a hell of alot more!
As far as raising money, myself and my fire dept.are involved in raising money. Also, I have put my name on a list to go down there and help out in search and recovery or whatever else needs to be done. (taking time off from my job without pay).

What about u???

The government has already written one $10.5 billion check -- this is going to be the first of many multi-billion dollar payments used to bail-out people who have chosen to build their city below sea level.

That's my money they are giving away to help people who are behaving stupidly.

You sure as hell won't find me donating anymore to any private charity since I've already been forced to "donate" through my taxes. And I won't complain about anyone else who doesn't donate, or doesn't donate in the amounts some might want, to this "relief effort".

You could donate to the Sudan instead -they definitely still need the money.

Yeah big deal. Pee-Diddy has donated 10x that amount personally.

Has the Gov't accepted Castro's offer yet? 1100 doctors? Why you could fill in the busted levy with their luggage and then use them as slave labour to rebuild the place.
