But the bigger question is where in the heck is Bono when you need him?
|
Bono, another complete ********* - donating millions, building schools and water treatment plants in Africa. All the while these "compassionate conservative" pricks rail against anyone that helps anyone else. Throw them all under the neocon bus.

John Lydon (Rotten) on Bono and Live 8 last week:
“Every time I see Bono in those big fly glasses and tight leather pants I just can’t hack it. I can’t see that as solving the world’s problems.” “He’s crushing his testicles in tight trousers for world peace.” :D :D :D |
9 people in a 14 ft boat...
good intentions/poor plan 9 people in a 14 ft boat, including personal photographer/videographer good intention/poor plan/self promotion engine doesn't start, leaves drain plug out... hahahaha My friend went there with his boat, rescued 150+people before being ordered to leave. he didn't even think once about bringing his camera. |

Penn had just one boat? Or was it just one boat in the photo? Bravo for your friend too. Capturing the devastation on "film" is one way to remind us what happened/what can happen. That's why the photogs on National Geographic bring theirs. Different/multiple priorities for each. Geesh. We're even critical of attempted rescue efforts, nevermind their intended motivations. Sherwood |
I'm not being critical of his attempt to help people. just the way he went about it, and of why they let him in to help when dozens of people I know were turned back. they were trained for that type of thing or have lived in the area all their lives but were not allowed to get in to help.

>9 people in a 14 ft boat...good intentions/poor plan
Exactly...he should understand what our gov't is going through right now, but no, what a perfect opportunity to bash Bush. >My friend went there with his boat, rescued 150+people before being ordered to leave. he didn't even think once about bringing his camera. And that my friends is why we are picking on Sean. Real do-gooders just go out and do good, and don't tow cameras and "look at what a good person I am" media with them. I think most people outside LA see through that schlock. BTW...Penn was great in Mystic River. Actors should stick to what they do best. |
NPR reported on a guy who owns his own helicopter. He and his friend, w/o authorization, flew to NO and rescued some people too.
Publicity whore. IMHO, if that was a "Sean Penn PR photo" taken by a pro, that really sucks. A good PR photo would include the following elements: Main subject grasping little baby out of harm's way. Add points if rescuer and rescued are of different ethnic backgrounds. In the background are grateful people snatched from grim circumstances (billowing black smoke, smashed/submerged homes, elderly/infirmed people carried on board). Geraldo Rivero had a good photo op last weekend at the Astrodome with said distressed baby and requisite tears. I would categorize the pic of Penn bailing N.O. stew as quite candid and not worthy of inclusion in People Magazine. His photographer should come up with a more worthy selection for the photo editor in short order. Sherwood |
my buddy saw Geraldo standing in ankle deep water wearing his hip boots blowing kisses and waving to the cameras as he got on his helicopter leaving. I wonder if the plug was in his boat while rescuing people. sorry if you can't see some humor in this even with the tragedy in N.O.. Penn did a good thing and deserves credit. even more if he had done it without the publicity pics. c'est la vie!

If he actually saved someone, bully for him. How about spending his $ to get a couple more swift water teams there or something more effective than having him putter around with a photog.
Frankly, this guy looks like neo-Jesse Jackson. Bono is ok, but my impression of most of these "stars" have a glaring difference to the masses, the money they give to these causes while it sounds like a lot, does not approach what Mrs Jones contributes. Example: Oprah if she gives a 10 million wouldn't be 5% of her net worth. |
I just started a DVD . . . Sean's face showed up and I started laughing.
I don't think I can ever look at him the same again. :D (had to bump this thread) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1126039854.jpg |
